Get a new Tacoma. You’ll be able take care of it and know the entire history of it. The used prices are so inflated that it doesn’t make any sense to buy one. I’ve seen many used Tacos that cost more than new ones. Get a 23 and have the piece of mind that you have a new truck with a full warranty.

You never know what the previous owner has done to a used Tacoma. I'd always be questioning what kind of oil and filter has been used? Were there some shody Raptor lights wired up before? How many holes have been drilled and where to hang mole panels? How many date nights at Applebees have ended badly on the passenger seat?

I would try to wait it out for a new 2023 in my preferred color and trim level. Cast a wide net for dealers. Rent a car for a few months if you can.

Dude, I have never thought about date night part. That’s hilarious and even more reason to get a new one.

New would be the best bet. You may have to sacrifice on floor mats or something like that but in that range, I’d rather have a color I can live with and 0 miles on it. Also, some local dealers have manual transmission trucks available. I went to a local dealer and they had two of the exact same sport model Stickshifts. They were not even allocated to them sitting on the lot. Bought mine the next day. I wanted an automatic, and I did not want lunar rock. I ended up with a manual transmission lunar rock, and I’m extremely pleased with it.

I looked at a used 2022 SR5 with 16k on it. Dealer wanted over 46K out the door. I built the truck I wanted on Toyotas website and sent the specs to a couple of dealers in the area. For about a grand more I got a 2023 TRD Sport with more options and it was already on schedule to be built. Had it in my garage in less than 3 weeks. I'd explore that angle if I were you. A lot of dealers have 2023s on their lots now too. Oh and I paid MSRP. You might be able to do even better than that now with the market softening some

Glad this was a successful sanity check, thanks all. Hopefully joining the club soon. Applebee's comment solidified it.

Never understood the hate for the turbo 4’s. More power, torque, better fuel economy. The next gen Canyon puts out 430 lb-ft of torque that’s insane. You’re not missing out on any V8 growl.

I would prefer the Tacoma had a turbo version of their 4cyl instead of the 3.5 V6 but then I'm more of a turbo enthusiast. The GM 3.6 V6 has plenty of zip and runs circles around the tacoma 3.5. If only the colorado was a cool looking truck, both it and the ranger are kinda bland looking.

I like the next gen Canyon and Colorado. The current ones are lacking. I had a ZR2 with the Duramax and it was stout for sure. Other owners said it was slow but they never drove a Tacoma. Their 8 speed transmission issues with the V6 are terrible. If they don’t solve it for the next gen people will avoid GM like the plague.

Like all things made in china some GM products will be OK but most will just fall apart. Using the absolute cheapest materials they can get away with slapped together by the cheapest labor they can find that great GM feeling is the door handle snapping off in your hand.
