Current Toyota products are not much better. The wiring harnesses and electronic components might still be better.

The manufacturers waste money on vehicle electronics, which consistently go up in cost. The more they will cut corners elsewhere.

Won't be long where purchasing a vehicle will be the least sensible option to having a vehicle to drive. They'll only last the life of the lease.

I am a anti-new car/truck guy but when I was looking at a used Tacomas that were within a couple of thousand vs new (or sometimes a couple hundred) I was like: y’all insane. I lucked up and found EXACTLY what I had spec’d out on Toyota’s website at my local dealer.
I got the new. But this is a large purchase…you do what you can live with.

For me it comes down to do I want a little engine that's working hard all the time, or a big engine that's hardly working most of the time? Also how long is that little engine going to last, because it's so complex I can't work on it myself.

My wife leases a ferd edge every 2 years, she has a long commute and doesn't want to buy something and drive it into the ground in 4 years. Those ecoboost 4 are powerful as hell, very impressive to drive. But if something goes wrong you are making an appointment at the ferd dealer because there isn't shit you can do to fix it yourself.

Also, is that little ecoburner going to go 3 or 4 hundred thousand miles with out many expensive trips to the dealer? I honestly doubt it.

My boring old school Tacoma will.

I don’t know about you but I have to hammer down on my truck to get it up and moving. I wouldn’t say that’s hardly working. You are right on ease of workability on a non turbo motor. I don’t think you’ll have a choice in 5 years if you want a V6 in a midsize truck though. You’ll be stuck in a 4.

Well, since I don't live "there" it really doesn't matter much to me.

What’s the point of all that power in a midsize truck? The base model makes even less torque and power than our 3.5 . The trucks are only rated for about 7k lbs towing. Most aren’t comfortable towing that heavy and you are doing so with a smaller aluminum block engine making a lot of heat. The 430lb ft of torque rating is only in their top trim truck too. Think about engine braking down a grade with a heavy load with only 2.7l of displacement and lower compression ratio than a comparable V6/V8

You must enjoy driving slow vehicles if you don’t see the need for torque and horsepower. 430 is standard on all Canyons. You’re thinking of the Colorado.

Ask Ford about turbo problems. All the work vans have shit the bed around 100K miles, 7 thousand dollars to replace at the dealership.

With all due respect. You don’t need 430 torque to get to work and back.

3rd gen has lost options when other tech options have been added. 3rd gen lost the bedside cubbies, not a big loss in my opinion. I think that was when dual climate control was added and the power drivers seat.

3rd gen lost the external oil cooler from the tow package, I think this was when LED head lamps became an option.

All manufacturers do this. When Ford adds more tech to their vehicles the materials they use are even worse quality than what is already being used.

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples of this if you take a previous model year vehicle and compare that vehicle to the one that has added optional or standard new technology.

Yes I sometimes simply make shit up. Not this time.

Nothing wrong with it, just compared to other trucks they’re slow as shit. I love the truck just saying it’s slow.

I think I saw Ricky Bobby this past week...
I saw a guy in a Tacoma make a right into the street I was traveling in. He floored it (without any real need whatsoever) passed a couple of cars was there first... at the RED TRAFFIC LIGHT some 300 yards ahead... We all caught-up to him a few seconds after...

    But Poweeeerrr!

I am sure he was hoping for 400Hp.

It hardly ever makes sense to buy a lightly used Tacoma. I made that mistake on my first gen, and was pretty disappointed when I realized I could have gotten a brand new one for about $2000 more.
