So, I'm hoping I'm not the only one. I had a 19 taco with halogen head and fog lights. Replaced the bulbs to LED and what a miraculous difference. Got my 23 not too long ago and I figured what a deal, LED head and fogs, less money I have to dish out. Here's the dilemma: is it just me or are the factory LED fogs completely garbage? I used to be able to just have the fogs on and be just fine in dusk type conditions. Now? At night I can barely even tell they are on. Anyone with the same issue or anyone with a good replacement recommendation?

They’re garbage. Upgrading the fogs was my first mod on my 23 I did

The stock led fogs aren't great. DD Elites are fantastic though and keep the OEM appearance.

Not sure where the issue is. Fog lights do not replace the headlights. They add the sides and right in front of the vehicle below the headlights. Together they illuminate just fine. That plus reduced speed in foggy conditions is absolutely satisfactory for me. They are not lights to use in dusk and think they replace headlights.

DD SS3 Max in selective yellow are incredible. Aimed correctly and only on when the conditions call for it - but could be a substitute for headlights in a pinch. So many Tacomas / 4Runners in CA seem to drive around with every dang light they have on at all times o_O.

I noticed a significant difference compared to the OEM trd pro Rigid fogs. I drive in the wee hour fog in Northern CA and the Central Valley during the waterfowl season.. That fog gets thick as soup and the DD selective yellow max's work wonders.

Telling the “fog lights always on” bros they shouldn’t have their fog lights on in non-foggy conditions is like explaining inorganic chemistry to your dog.

first the fogs should not replace the headlights
the oem fogs are not designed to be flamethrowers but more of a driving / cornering light
car makers are not going to put super bright lights from the factory

I think they work great in tandem with low beams...

They’re not great but sufficient for the typical daily driver.

So is this a prohibited thing to do? Not sure why they shouldn’t when it increases their chances of being seen. In some cars the fogs or a dimmer setting of the headlights turn on automatically and cant be turned off its sorta the point of a DRL.

Bold claim and now you should back it up. If you can show me ONE car that uses it’s fogs as DRL from the factory I’ll delete my account and leave the fog light bros alone forever. Fun fact, you won’t, cause fogs require low beams to be on.

Many “dick moves” aren’t illegal, that’s why they got that nickname. See my post above about explaining it, which I won’t cause the information is widely available online. In short, “fog lights” isn’t a clever name.

I don't think that is right, my stock limited 2021 fogs will come on with DRL's only, no low beams

Rigid pod fogs, SpartanX stealth grill and hood LED's, 17" SEMA's on 275/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W's, Fox 2.0 on all corners , TRD CAI, LEER 100XQ Blacked out, w/ Thule racks, and Cargo slider Flow master American Thunder "dual" exhaust, remote start, tint, TRD Pro grill and TRD shadow graphics, Alcan custom 8 leaf Spring Pack
The fogs or driving lights as some call them come on with just the DRL. I have rigid pods with yellow covers and they are not blinding anyone, and run them at times at dusk. There are too many morons on the road who drive without any lights at dark or in the rain. My major concern is to be seen, especially by those morons in traffic and the yellow is a better attention grabber. To each their own, I guess

hmm interesting, and yet an even more bold claim than mine. Well anyways i used to own a 2016 Altima that did exactly that, its fogs were the DRL. You can keep your account if you like but you’re wrong. Not all cars are the same. There isn’t a certification standard for DRL light positioning

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question while yall are debating.

I’ve got stock halogen fogs. I want a better alternative for driving backroads at night, especially during deer season/rut activity. I hate running my high beams and switching back and forth when other drivers come (curvy roads and I hate the auto-high beams).

Would DD SS3 Pro “fogs” (not “driving”) blind oncoming traffic? Would love to keep them on my entire night drive at certain times.

A properly aimed fog fills in under the low beams, don't know how useful that will be in your area
SS3 Pros have a softer cutoff than the more powerful Max and the less powerful Sports and Elites but properly aimed they shouldn't blind oncoming drivers
see the link I posted above for more info
