Top it off now and you'll know when the light comes on.

To me, that's more useful to know than to verify what the size of the tank is, since we know that the tank is 21.1 gallons ;)

The issue is that the light and gauge calibration varies from truck to truck.
Light on, I have just a touch over 4 gallons left.
    Others report more or less.

If I had one of those trucks where the light came on at 19 instead of 17, I'd like to know :D

Made 426 miles on one tank and still no light on. Filled up and did the math. 24.6 mpg all highway cruising 70 to 80mph. Held 17 Gallons. Don't have the nerve to run any lower. Hate walking.

But it's nice to know that you could have pushed it another 75 miles before you truly needed to find a gas station.

    Indeed.

The light was probably right on the edge of coming on.
Mine came on at, what was it... 16.7 gallons? Needle was so close to "E" that I was seriously questioning whether or not the RC base 5-lug actually had a low fuel light. It's one of the few lights that, like "Cruise", does not illuminate during the "lamps test" at ECU bootup.

    Necro buddy!

I posted a thread when I got it fixed at Discount.

Good timing too. The next week I picked up a nail. Going down the freeway the light came on. WTF? Pulled off into a parking lot and cycled the ignition, expecting it to flash then stay on. Nope... Came on and stayed on after the lamps test completed.

Got the gauge, sure as shit, the left rear was down exactly 10psi, which is where the system triggers. Rolled the truck forward spitting on the tire and found it.
Took it to Pep Boys, they couldn't find it. I had to show them where I had marked the sidewall (with a ballpoint). They fixed it, no light since then.

Apparently, the reset button on the bottom of the dash doesn't always work properly... the guy from Discount said not to fuck with it.

Low and slow.. chopped up on 35s
I get maybe 17-20 out of mine, but I'm lifted on 255s, have arb bumper front and steel rear.. and have 4.88 gears.

I usually get anywhere from 300-350 before the gas light comes on if I'm being nice and not going highway speeds
