Yes its the annoying guy who has had way to many Tacomas. I've browsing and dealing a bit for a few months considering replacing my 2020 TRD Offroad fully loaded in Cement, I do love my truck but its at about 45k miles now (commuted 120 miles roundtrip for almost a year working downtown Children's Hospital), it's had a small fender bender (rear ended and repaired), has some small chips up front pen corrected by me and about to hit the part where I actually have to do some maintainence again and break out the tools from my box. I've also seen some unsettling threads here with timing cover gasket failures and cylinder cracks outside 60k powertrain (didnt buy extended warranty). So I'm wondering do I roll the dice and run her till she's paid off (in 2 years) or do I jump on a mint 10k 2021 TRD PRO in Lunar Rock I was offered. Its certified so the longer 7 yr / 100k warranty, still has free maintainence for a bit, will hold value better, but I'm paying basically the sticker for it new ($53k) but getting $37k for my trade, rate was prime for certfied at 3.99% current rate is 2.29%, any thoughts from the TW peeps. I think I'm getting old and conservative in my age and actually like nah maybe I'll keep this one for once.

And yes it is friday but this is not the friday thread...

Sounds like you've kind of already talked yourself into it :) In all honesty, only you can decide if 1 model year, 35k miles less, and the increased interest rate is worth the $$ to you. If I did that the wife would make me sleep in it for the foreseeable future LOL.

I vote for option three: Spend the money on a group of midgets to follow you around constantly while saying "Sir, we really look up to you!"

Trading in a truck you still owe on, with a $16k swing to get into the new one, for the benefit of it being 1 year newer?

    I'd pass.

True, 1 year newer, a PRO, Certified (longer powertrain warranty) and 35k less miles, but yes pretty much the gist.

There isn't much difference between the two trucks. Lunar Rock might be a better color than Cement, and it's a Pro.

Get a 2023 TRD Pro in Solar Octane, or a 2023 Ford Ranger.

So you currently have an OR with most of the PRO bells and whistles with the premium package-sound, leather, roof, LED etc. They are charging you 5k over sticker $48,500 msrp, but the added warranty is nice. Since i have a 2021 LR pro I would say buy an aftermarket warranty for the tacoma near the 60k mark to cover you another 40-50k miles and then add a few goodies to make you love the current truck again. My credit union offers easy street protection which i copied below. Think its a $100 deductible with towing. That dealer probably owns that truck for $48-49k plus certified warranty, so they probably aren't getting rich off it.

Also, i can understand if the LR color is more appealing.....lol

    Easy Street Protection
For vehicles 8 model years old or newer with 75,000 miles or less on the odometer.

    Coverage
5 years or until the odometer reaches 100,000 miles; whichever comes first.

    Pricing
    Standard Vehicles: $1,495

I didnt think about aftermarket warranty coverage, just knew I was outside the ability to buy factory extended. And yes more than original MSRP, I was thinking 22 PRO MSRPs with delivery and all the stupid little bits (predator steps, etc. it has).

I think the $16k you'd save would go a long way towards mods, maintenance, and any future expenses.

Difference in retail value between a '20 and '21 isn't near $16k. At resale time you're never going to get $16k more for the '21 than you would for a '20. So from a value and model year standpoint you're not getting anything for that money.

So the only thing you're getting for the money is the miles and warranty. If your truck was older, with 100k plus miles, the miles and warranty would be a strong consideration.

I guess I'd have to decide if I really like the newer one better.

Good luck with your decision. Let us know what happens....

Pros do hold slightly better value but as you mentioned not enough to warrant the difference. Thanks for the perspective. I'm still sitting here working on stuff in office, betting the 2020 stays in the garage.
