The more I do to my truck to make it my own, the less motivated I am to trade it in even for a really good trade-in value. And yes, you are getting more in this market for your trade, but you are also buying into that same market, so in theory that part is a wash. I've already been offered significantly more than I paid for my truck last May, but then I think what I'd be paying to buy something else, and I'm like meh :) Just something else to consider.

Exactly. I'm paying a little over MSRP on what the truck would have been new, sure I'm getting $37k for mine and I only paid $39k new 2 years ago, but I have to restart my payments and slightly higher interest and honestly f that. Here's hoping I get another 60k problem free miles out of her.

Time to grow up, put your money to a 401k and savings for retirement and quit buying so many flashy colored Tacomas.

And $53k for a used Tacoma? No thanks.

If a couple of chips and a small fender bender are enough to make you consider the truck worthless to you, I'd wager you're not going to wheel the Pro hard enough to get any benefit from it being a Pro. Tacoma's are built to be beaten up. Consider it an advance on any future beatings.

My friend she is still in the garage and I still love her like day one. Just talking out my vehicle ADD, if you see my thread, I've had a few of these trucks lol.

My savings, 401k and house are all good, been doing that for awhile, probably could be more aggressive, but better off than many at my age, also work 2 jobs and grad school, not the stereotype your thinking of I'm sure.

It sounds like you should be buying a Limited not a Pro then. ;)

I have vehicle ADD and own too many vehicles... but only one Tacoma and she looks nothin' like the day I brought her home because that's why she exists.

Maybe buy a fun car for your impulses? :D

In this market, not replacing or downsizing is the only to capitalize,,, buying something bigger, more expensive, etc is still going backwards.

    How old are you?

Also why not buy a new 2022 premium OR/Sport model for like 44k? The 7k difference WOULD be worth it from used to new.

Stuff that extra payment, taxes, and insurance in a savings account for major repairs. Tell the little lady the money will be there if needed, if not go on vacation, shorten your mortgage by years, or whatever makes y’all happy.

You're only at 45k. You've probably got a decade before she gets even close to blowing up on you. I think you might be vastly misunderstanding how long vehicles are kept.

Appears my assumptions were indeed wrong, apologies. But just think how much more you would have in retirement without buying 12-13 Tacomas, maybe half as many. I’m biased as I recently retired and every dollar I put back Im so glad I did. Time seems to go fast the older you get.
I bought a new 2019 SR at a very good price to have for retirement, upgraded it with keyless, fog lights, nice tonneau cover etc. I could have bought 10 TRD ORs cash but then retirement would have been tight and I want to have a comfortable retirement and have money for the unexpected.

37, no kids, just me and wife, separated AD (have that income and additional income being a nurse), wife is NP, we live within our means and are doing fine, well aware the financial reasons as to why I should not buy this truck, just avoiding the financial expert pep talks on here that always pop up, most my prior trucks I was single, AD and multiple trips overseas tax free

And yep looked at a new truck, same interest rate, only allocations are for Sports, so I expanded my search out of curiosity, MSRP on similar spec truck is $46k in my region

If you get it then you might need to remind yourself -- talkin' about a Taco blowing up at 45k as a worst case scenario for why you shouldn't replace it right now is your attempt at self justification talking and bypassing what you know to be logical. The market will have of course recovered by then -- and tanked -- and recovered -- and tanked -- and recovered a few times over.

Thats what I told her. Plus I'm getting to that weird stage in life my Dad was, he used to hold onto vehicles for no reason (at least in my younger self opinion), I now understand him better. Plus at the end of the day its another Tacoma, not that much different than what I have though I do love them, now if this was a new Raptor, well....
