Hi Mike. I just shot you a DM about these vibes on 4Runners or GX460s. I'd love it if you could take a look. Hoping all your experience might shed some light on this for me. I need to get my Tacoma replacement vehicle and anything that vibrates is 100% out!

Dude I think your having expecting to much from full frame “old” school trucks. I mean what kind of vibrations are we talking? Shaking the cab kind? Or just minor vibrations in the floor and steering wheel. Vibrations on full frame Toyota vehicles are normal to some degree

Any brand new 2022 vehicle should not vibrate. Plain and simple. I sold it so not worried about it anymore. Mine vibrated just as it's stated in the TSB. Toyota knows all of this obviously and is probably aiming to have it fixed with the new 2024 platform. The stiffer boxed frame, 1 piece driveline, and multi-link rear end will all likely resolve this.

That said, vibration while "normal" for a Tacoma is not a given with all pickups. I've had a Frontier, F150 and two Silverados both as work trucks and personal in the last 10 years and none of them had any form of vibration in the rear end, driveline, steering system or elsewhere.

I have a 2019 Tacoma SR5. Just bought it in December 2024. 14,300 miles. Didn't notice any vibration on test drive, but over the last few months I was feeling the vibration when braking around speeds of 35-15mph. I also have a more distinct vibration when going 60-65 mph and braking. Started researching and found the TSB. Made an appointment and actually took the printed TSB in an gave to the service tech. He was very appreciative that I brought that in. They ended up doing the fix per the TSB. It did absolutely nothing to fix the vibration. May have made it a little worse. I probably should have left well enough alone but for that amount of $$ I should not have to settle. Guess I will make another appointment.

My '17 SR vibrated up until the day I sold it. My '23 SR5 doesn't have the vibration. At certain speeds above 65 on the highway, it would vibrate so much that the passenger seat would rattle if vacant. No idea what the issue was, as the tires were road-force balanced.

just adding my experience. i bought new 2018 SR5 with the exact problem addressed in the T-SB-1024-20.
had to fight with dealer to do it (because of a jerk cust svc guy that was let go in pandemic and did not come back)
until i got the ear of svc manager who had actual maint mechanic ride with me and he immediately declared a problem.
they performed the TSB and it is totally fixed. i might still be able to sense some vibes when decelerating now, but i would never have noticed it if i did not have the original problem and know what to look for.
basically, except for OR trim (tsb calls it out), toyota uses crap leaf springs that allow the driveshaft to be rotated out of spec for the 2 piece driveshaft/universals and it vibrates, transmitted thru the carrier bearing to the frame. the stronger OR leaf springs fixes it, as long as angles are set properly.
and the steering wheel damper gives it a real nice feel but i think is overkill.
ps. tsb does not apply to lifted trucks. lift and you are out of luck.

They actually did all those step on the TSB.
Like dropping the main drive shaft and driving on H 4x4 with just the front drive train. 2 new rear springs ? How long did they have it ?

i assume you are asking me. after tech confirmed problem, i took truck home and he scheduled parts. scheduled a day to do it. i drove it there in morn. they gave me loaner to get home. drove back and picked it up in evening. does not take long to do the work. not sure they did driving on front driveshaft but they are by the book and prob did that to keep Toyota happy. he was familiar and knew what the problem was when we went for ride. it was pronounced on mine. it is not uncommon. gave me a report showing new angles after installation. this was about 4 or 5 years ago and been fine since.

I’ll have to talk to my dealer. Reschedule a test drive with the shop tech foreman.
