I just purchased a 2013 Double Cab, six foot bed, SR5 with stock 245/75 16 tires and wheels. It currently has NEW Highway tread tires, I live in out in the country in Central Minnesota and, would like to buy a set of, USED stock 16 inch to mount an aggressive snow/mud (245/75 16) for winter use. So my question is, do I need to stay with 2nd Gen wheels or, will 1st or 3rd Gen wheel work for what I want? Thanks in advance for the help!

Any of the 6 bolt rims would probably work( FJ,4Runner rims). You could also go up to a 17 inch rim if you wanted to.

Any wheel, OEM or aftermarket, with the bolt pattern of 6 x 5.5" would fit. Just have to be mindful of the width of the wheel along with the backspacing. OEM wheel tends to be 7" in width with a BS of around 5.4". For the tire size you have, I would avoid a wheel with a width of more than 7.5" for bead/sidewall protection. A wheel with a backspacing of less than 5.4" will give you a more wider stance.

NOTE: Not all 2nd gen Tacomas have the same lug pattern. There are 5 lug tacomas.

    Welcome to TW.

I have 6 lugs, just don't want any problems with backspacing.

For your intended tire width of 245, you should have zero issues with any 16" Toyota 4x4 (6-lug) wheel from a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen Tacoma. You can also pick from 4Runner, Sequioa, Tundra, and FJ Cruiser wheels.

Here's a set of 2012 FJ Cruiser Trail Edition 17" wheels on my truck with 255/75R17 tires:

3rd Gen TRD off road alloys are currently the lightest OEM wheel option - I believe. Someone will chime in and correct me if that’s changed.
