Need a little help. My wife put her TRD OFF ROAD into snowdrift going up a hill on my lane. One rear wheel slipped into a small ditch. Pretty much ice under the snow. I plan to do a bit of shoveling. The truck is not high centered. I wil get some sand under the tires. In her 20+ years of driving Tacoma 4X4's this is her first time in a snow drift and ditch.

This is her first OFF ROAD and first truck with a locker. Now for the help. The owners manual is in the truck which is about 1/4 mile from our house. It is ten degrees out and I don' t want to walk back down the hill to get the manual to read up on how to engage the locker.

How about some help with how to engage the locker. I know that I have to be in 4 Low. And that I have to put the automatic transmission in neutral before engaging the locker. What next? Will the locker engage immediately? Any help will be much appreciated. I've been driving 4x4's for over thirty years and have never had a truck with a "real" locker. Hopefully it can work some magic. I don't want have to hook a tow rope to my tractor to pull he truck out.

    Jeez a whole quarter mile?

What would you do if she was stuck somewhere else and you or her didn't have internet?

Laziness is dangerous and helps nobody.

I don't get it, is she in the truck? Can't she read it? And if she's not, aren't you going to have to walk down there anyways??

    4low then push locker button..
The light will be solid when it engages. Usually you have to drive a couple feet in a slight arc before it engages.

Walking all the way there once to read the manual, start the truck and free it is too much effort so he's breaking down into 3 trips.

I know this is crazy, but if it's her truck and she got stuck - she should learn how to fix her situation and not you doing it for her, also.

She relying on you and you relying on the internet makes my head hurt.

WOW so much informative help on here tonite, if you don't have something constructive to add maybe keep your b.s. comments to yourself.
He's asking for help so he hopefully can get the truck in one trip.

Suppose you guys would see a pretty lady stuck in a drift and just drive by thinking she should know how to get out herself??

Must be Friday night on the internet.

To those who gave positive suggestions, "Thanks". Mostly I didn't want to mess anything up engaging the locker. If the truck cannot move forward at all, will the locker engage without being driven in a slight arc?

Might as well correct the title while I'm at it. "2015 TRD Off Road stuck in a snow drift". Must be Friday night on the internet after a very long day.

Being a little harsh James, no?

Like the others said, neutral 4low. Then back in gear hopefully 4low will engage without being able to move. Then push the locker button. Also hoping it will engage being stuck.

Mr personally? If you have easy access to a tractor, like it sounds like you do. I'd just pull it out with that. Save yourself all the trouble.

    Not really.

"Help me, I'm helpless" isn't an effective learning tool.

Meh. The guys never engaged the locker before. I can understand asking about it first before potentially fucking something up.

He's not asking someone to come drive the truck out for him.

I wouldnt give it much gas trying to engage the locker... so do you only have the one vehicle? Sounds like its in2x4 instead of 4x4 if only one wheel is stuck?

You should also have A-trac. 4 low, rear locked and A-trac on will be your best chance of getting traction.

As far as I know when a wheel slips up front, the computer brakes that wheel so the wheel that has traction can turn. Wouldn't think it would be worse.

They are trying to get it unstuck so the A-Trac and Rear Locker seems like the best bet.

I guess Ive never been a fan of the auto-trac...any time it starts thumping the gas pedal wanting you to let off the gas is a recipe for getting stuck IMO...
