Has anyone attempted this? My intent is to have wider rims (Trailmaster TM5 or TM9) without sacrificing MPG. I regularly use my truck to haul furniture for my wife's business and do other truck stuff, so can't sacrifice power either. My current setup is 17x7 rims with 225/60/17 tires.

Why not a 15x7? Those should be readily available as well, and getting an aluminum wheel should help reduce unsprung weight which would keep the pep and probably help mpg by a fraction. 215 on a x8 seems like a bit of a stretch (pun intended). It may work but would likely look kinda funny.

And by your current tire size, going back to a shorter 215/70 would probably help in the performance realm too.

Thanks for the response .I ask because 4wheelparts has the some 15x8 rims for $46/rim . Also in Hawaii, our tire tread cannot go past the fender well. I'll check to see if 225/70/15 will work better.

I checked Corvette forums of those guys installing 215/70 on a 15x8 rims, but haven't seen it done on our Tacoma.
