Went into the dealership to get the TPMS registered with the new truck. I had steel wheels and went to allows and bought new sensors on eBay.

Arrive at the dealership and they tell me $218 to program the new sensors - wth!?

WOW. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can take those sensors to any tire store and they will do it much cheaper than that. I had my sensors switched over from stock wheels to SCS wheels. $14 at america tire.

i believe they program themselves after 20 miles of consistent speed driving.

fwiw, if i could get rid of the fuckers and lose the dash light i would.

I had to have mine reprogrammed to transfer over to my new wheels, but they reused my sensors. I still wouldnt expect it to be that much regardless if they were new or not

That's far too much - go to America's Tire if possible. They programmed mine for free when I had them mount/balance my new set of tires.

Pep Boys will read a check engine light code with their scanner for free in under a minute. Toyota requires you to leave your truck for an hour and charges a $125 "diagnostic fee" just to tell you exactly what Pep Boys will. Ask me how I know.

    That about sums it up.

I just had new wheels and tires put on my truck. The light wasn't on and --- showed next to all my tires when I went to my tire pressure screen on the dash. Discount Tire couldn't reprogram it becuase they said the 2016 needs to be done at the dealership. Brought it yesterday, waited about an hour and it was done free of charge. Now it shows the reading for all 4 tires.

There is a difference between proper diagnosis and some pimply faced kid telling you what code is set.

P0300, random engine misfire. What's the problem?

P0013 Exhaust camshaft position performance. What's the problem?

The steel wheels sensors do not transfer over to alloy wheels. I just bought FN wheel and the vendor verified that I had stock alloy wheels because if not I would need new sensors. I've heard autozone could re calibrate the sensor but idk if they can actually switch sensor types.

And the dealer always gets it right? LOL
They recently did a first oil change on a Tundra Pro for me. Half a quart of oil spilled on the skid plate blown all under the truck on the way home. Oil hand print marks all inside and on the hood. A 5 year old could have done better.

Not all dealers are equal, I'll be the first to admit that. And the kid right out of high school changing your oil isn't the one diagnosing more complex issues.

I had them look at an engine vibration this year on a car of mine. Diagnosis came back as rear window screen wiper blade needs replacement. $89. Seriously. I was pissed.

They all have issues in one area or another. There is no perfect dealership.
