A lot of guys dont go bigger than 17". some of the 'blingier' rims are 18". Most off-road enthusiasts that I know like 16" rims. More sidewall and better selection of tires out there.

Black rims have seemed to be in for a long time now.

Whatever makes you happy though dude.

and with 16s cheaper tires and rims. I think i saved about 500 bucks by going down to 16s then i would have if i stayed at 17s

The TRD package is a package from the Factory. TRD Off-Road or TRD Sport.

Both have there ups and downs but its about your needs. Some people think getting the TRD package is a lot of money to spend when they know they are going to redo all the suspension and mod the hell out of it.

I'm thinking about getting the TRD off-road but I might be leaning towards the base model double cab 4x4 (does this come in timberland mica??) since I don't feel like paying 30k for a truck in this economy... That might be the best route for me since I would put better suspension on it and get new rims/tires.

    True, another good point!

PLUS...a 22" rim would have be to a god awful ride.

Indeed, include prospective girlfriends, his family, his friends, and anyone else you can file under "sane".

Also, if you show up for a job interview from me and you have 22s on your truck, I'm going to deny you the job out of spite.

so is this what we've become? yet another tacoma site that ONLY accepts people who follow a certain "style" preference?

    FUCK THAT

if the OP wants to put on 22" wheels who the FUCK cares...you arent making his truck payment

if you dont like them dont put them on your truck

my opinion...i wouldnt do it...but ive seen several trucks with larger diameter wheels and they looked fine...it just depends on what wheels you put on there...

hell...many if not MOST competition offroad buggies run 17" or greater...tires in the 40"+ range dont come in a 15" or a 16" wheel size...not that it matters...

let the guy put his 22s on his truck...

You have to get wheels that have a 106 mm center bore. Toyota's have huge centers compared to Nissans and Chevys. I would sell those rims and try again.

True enough, however he could end up damaging his bling rims the second he attempts to mount anything larger than a marble.
So I'm just looking out for his well being.

That and tires for a 22" rim would be ridiculously expensive. Now I'm looking out for his financial welfare.

Damn; no hard feelings op. Just having a little fun. Didn't realize some would get their panties all crammed up about it. You want 22's on your 4x4, have at it; I could give a shit; but be prepared for wave of laughter you will hear.:)

No problem. Just go price some 22 tires and I guarantee you won't be looking to install those rims.

Shit...a coke habit would be cheaper.

    Too many mods to list
You obviously arent going to go for the 15, 16 or 17 look that most people will propose here. They will obviously propose this cause most of them go offroad A LOT, but that also means, most of the trucks look the same (same wheels, same mods, same shit), which is kind of dumb IMO since you want to customize your truck, else youd just leave it stock. But to each their own I guess.

Anyhow, even if you are going for that big rim look, id advise going with a 20 at most. I personally im going to use 4Runner 18s on mine, which looks awesome and still gives me great rideability. Im guessing that even while you have a 4x4, you arent going to offroad much, if at all, else you wouldnt have even thought about 22s, so just go for something from 18 to 20 and youll be fine.

Id personally say go for the 18s, but thats just me.

On a side note. About tires prices, 22s will be pretty expensive, 20s are sort of the same. On a X5 with 20s the tires go for like 250 to 325 in my personal experience. I dont enjoy it, glad its not my personal car. 18s tend to be a bit cheaper, but dont expect to pay 100 per tire, aint even gonna get that with 16s. Just a heads up anyhow.
