When shifting gears on the M/T you do not need to depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor, but you do when starting the engine if the transmission is in gear. So I put the trans in neutral before starting and then use the clutch cancel to start the engine, clutch pedal not needed.

Most likely no one taught you that because you are not supposed to do it.

Lol, no it was poor teaching. Holding the vehicle for less than 1/4 seconds is well within a clutches ability and causes no more wear than general use. Using the hand break the clutch must slip for longer because there is more resistance to overcome. If you advocate letting the parking break off at the moment the clutch bites adequately, well then the only difference is I'm using the foot break instead of the hand break and you are causing more clutch slip because revving the engine, means higher rpm and more wear on the clutch while my engine is idling at the same point in the process.

Hill starting without the parking brake is not the same as "hold[ing] the vehicle when stopped." The manual is referring to holding the clutch at the bite point for an extended period to keep the car from rolling backwards while stopped. Don't do this, this kills the clutch.

The manuals have always had "push to start".

I believe the reason manuals don't have the push to start yet is the amount of redesigning that would be necessary to do it. It was pretty straight forward for the automatics so when Toyota does the complete redesign of the Tacoma I think then the manuals will have push to start.

Love the push to start function. My Tacoma has it as well as my wife's Avalon. I've got both of mine in an AJT aftermarket case which is smaller than the OEM and doesn't bulge in my pocket as much. Both have been through the wash several times with no ill effects. I don't know how I'd deal with a key if I had to dig out of my pocket. I haven't done it yet, but plan to get on a 12 month battery replacement schedule.

My friend had to drive a key start truck for a while (usual car is a Lexus), all he did was complain about what a drag it is to have to turn a key. Frick, is this where we are as a society?

And yeah, this could be the LAST year for a manual truck. Not too many left out there being made. One of the reasons I may pick up a 3rd gen.

Hopefully the Tacoma wont lose the MT when the 2024 comes out, maybe the Gladiator MT will still be around for awhile yet too.

I highly doubt Toyota will discontinue the manual as they still sell a good number of them. Not only Tacoma's but other models too. I believe there's a manual only Trd Corolla coming out.
My Salesman is stopping by tomorrow so I'll see what he has to say about it.

There's no R&D in manuals, especially for the US. I'm not sure that Toyota would kill off the manual but it is still only 5% of the trucks they sell so who knows.
