22 TRD Sport w/ORM lift - will 255/75/17s rub?

Well, after 2 years of desperately wanting it I finally got my wish and got a 2022 TRD Sport! I had the dealer install the OEM lift.

I want to get either Method NV305s or Fuel Vectors, and am trying to decide on tire size.

Will 255/75/17 rub at all? Even a tiny bit? If you have that size, what tires did you go with?

Thanks all - super excited to finally have my Tacoma!

You'll likely have to get your alignment adjusted and do some minimal trimming/forming of the plastic fender liner.

Thanks crazysccrmd - not what I was hoping to hear. So much conflicting info out there - that’s why I posted. Saw many posts saying that tire would fit without rubbing - and was thinking with the lift it wouldn’t.

A suspension lift doesn't somehow create more tire clearance, it just lifts the truck higher in the suspension travel at ride height by reducing down travel. If it rubs at stock height, it will still rub when the suspension is compressed to that same height. As small as 32" tires seem to be the size where some have issues, some don't. It's may be because of LCA cam bolt position along with ideal offset and even tire tread design.

Thanks Grundlejuice. I don’t know squat about it beyond what I’ve read on this forum and others, but the majority of sites I’ve seen say that a lift or leveling allows for larger tires. For example - trailtacoma has a page dedicated to what lifts fit what tires and it said that on 17” wheels, a 2” lift will accommodate a 255/75/17 with no rubbing.

I wanted to ask on here because it’s a forum not just a website and I figured I’d get a variety of responses. Not doubting your knowledge just wondering why I see so many conflicting answers.

I suspect some responses are anecdotal or ignorant. If you think about how the suspension works, the only way to change how much tire clearance you have is to either change the shape/size of the cavity the tire interferes with (trimming wheel well liner, lower profile upper control arms, removing mud flaps, cab mount chop, etc) or changing the physical location of the tire by installing different control arms, wheels or wheel spacers that adjust the path of the tire through the travel of the suspension. Getting the tire size you mentioned, 255/75/17, should be something you can do with UCA and wheels/spacers. I have 275/70/17 tires that fit without interference through hitting the bump stops. Others claim 285/70/17 or 285/75/16 tires fitting without interference and not having to trim anything structural.

I ran 255/75/17 with the 17x7 trd 4 runner pro wheels on my stock 3rd gen with no lift. No rub, not even when stuffed.

I can second this, so it’s just a matter of comparing rim offset. There is room to spare w/the TRD wheel so unless you use a weird offset rim I’m sure you’ll do fine.

i do run 255/75/17 with 1.5” of front lift and the TRD Pro runner wheels. Zero issues

Offset is relative to the width of the wheel as well. The 4runner Pro wheels posted above have a slight positive offset on a 7" wide wheel where those methods are going to have a 0mm offset on a 8.5" wheel. The Methods will stick out about 1" further outwards than the 4runner pro wheels will making it more likely that you'll rub the back of the fender and/or cab mount.

I was also considering Fuel Vectors with a +7 offset. They’re also 8.5” wide. Would that be a better option?

It will definitely pull them in a bit. You need to make sure you can clear the UCA's as well, which I would assume you would with a 255 wide tire. I don't have a 3rd gen so dudes that own them would have a better idea of what exactly fits them. I just wanted to help you understand the differences in offset relative to wheel width.

OP, I just picked up my 22 TRD sport and had the TRD lift installed as well. I am running icon vector 6 wheels, 17x8.5 with 0 offset and 285 70 17 BFG KO2’s and have 0 rub. I have 1/2” to 3/4” of clearance between the upper control arm and the tire, no rubbing at all. The tires are flush with the fenders and look great imo

Just wait until you go off-road or reverse over a bump at full lock and you’ll find where it rubs.

You must be popular with the ladies at the bridge table with your opinions. I’m asking about fit - not whether someone I don’t know likes my style.
