2015 Tacoma 4 by 4 that has 220,000 miles. 95% of the miles on paved road, no hard 4 wheeling (no mudding), and in West Virginia.

There has been a little gear changing issue with a slight jolt every once in a while and slow shifting down when braking quickly for animals etc. This started about a year ago and the shop told me they could not diagnose the problem without more of an issue. They drove it and could not find anything wrong. Both are inconsistent and come and go. Transmission fluid changed at 100K mile intervals. With the transmission fluid change there was no difference in the transmissions. The truck has been great.

Yesterday there was a jolt and the engine light and trac off light came on at the same time. The code for the problem was P0776 for Solenoid B. I was in middle of nowhere and had to drive home. There was no issue driving the vehicle. After the vehicle was parked last night and restarted today both of the lights were off and it drove fine.

What should be done? Just drive since the error codes cleared and lights went off, replace Solenoid B, replace all solenoids, is there something going wrong and the transmission should be replaced, or other recommendations someone may have?

I like to be able to get out and away on weekends and need to trust that the transmission will get me back.

    Your responses are appreciated.

You sure the code was not p0756?
    That’s for the S2 (2nd) gear solenoid.
It’s either stuck Off or ON. (AKA - not working when commanded)
You may need to pull the pan and valve body to inspect it.

If you do that, might as well get a filter and clean the magnets in the pan.

Have you ever checked to see if the trans fluid is at the correct level? There is a procedure on TW for a drain and fill, and fluid exchange. Both procedures will tell you how to check the trans fluid.

When I had fluid changed at 200k the pan was cleaned and new filter. The guy that did it said there was nothing out of the ordinary. It was p0776, I just checked the printout. I was wondering about the other solenoids and if they need replaced also.

I will check the level. However, the slight downshift and jolt existed prior to the fluid change.

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong transmission.
The P0776 is for the 4-5 shift.
    It’s basically the same process.
You check line pressure. If line pressure is good, you are dropping the pan and checking SL2.
