I think 30k ranks up there with recommended by dealer similar to 3,000 mile oil changes. It gets them more business. 60k for a plug change seems reasonable. But 220,000 is crazy. But if OP got that much out of them, more power to him.

At this point IF you are serious I would not do the work yourself, you will have a high risk of problems on the extraction, and it's best to be at the shop already if that occurs.

Might as well change the oil for the first time while you are at it.

It's not too difficult to DIY. I think Chris4x4 (moderator) threaded a step by step with pix. Extremely helpful.

It's not difficult unless you leave them in for 220k and they are seized in there.

good point here. I would definitely change them out every 60K like the other guys mentioned too. I bought my OEM denso spark plugs for about $3.50 a piece at the dealership. it's usually an easy DIY but i would be worried that your threads got seized.

even the best cared for vehicles can have issues with part removal.

working on industrial equipment, I see engines that have NEVER had a tune up in almost 10000 hours ( rough equivalent of 325,000 miles) some the plugs come right out, some do not. looking at the plugs once they're out, sometimes you wonder how the machine even ran, other times, meh, why am i doing this.

the manufacturer "recommends" that tune up and other services are done at specified intervals. many times the interval is an average based on wear and expected life, other times it is to ensure proper emissions level on given machine ( they are responsible for emissions on automobiles for up to 80k miles after sale, sometimes longer)

Toyota recommends 10k oil change intervals, how many wait that long ? is it actually better to do it early ? trans fluid service, Toyota says no need, yet, we do it anyway.

Dudes truck has run fine for over 200k on the original plugs, who are you to say anything ? is it recommended ? no, but it works, so be it.

Would I wait that long ? probably not

a lot of judgmental attitude going on here, sure, there are some facts but in the grand scheme, does it matter to YOU ? will it cost YOU anything if it there are issues as a result ?

if it costs OP, its his problem, his loss, if it doesn't, lucky for him.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing. Might be tough getting them out, at this point.

That is crazy that you went this long without any misfires though. Actually pretty sweet that they lasted so long.

Yes and there was no "rant" nor a "soapbox". Oh crap, there I go again.

I didn't know that I needed to check with you first. Whoops!

    Does it bother you?

if you can get them out, hopefully they haven't seized up in the head. I bought my truck with 130k and I believe it had the original plugs, I changed them out but they were a pain in the ass I had to use a breaker bar to to massage them in and out a quarter turn at a time. It was very nerve racking.

30K, the reason is emission warranty. At 220K it is highly doubtful you had no issues with either miss fire or trashed coil packs.
