I am currently helping my buddy with his 22r. He says a freeze plug came out and most of the coolant shot out and the truck ran hot. He replaced the freeze plug, filled it back up with coolant and it was still running hot and the engine was running like crap. I have the head off now and can see that gasket almost looks burned between cylinders 1 and 2, and 3 and 4. My question is would you just slap a new gasket on and put it all back together or take the head to a machine shop and get it shaved? I have done a head gasket on a 22r before and just replaced the gasket itself and everything was fine. I don’t have much experience with a head being warped.

Here’s a better picture of the gasket.

On my 22r I had a head gasket leak at 180,000(antifreeze) that just went to the outside of the motor. I replaced it with a factory gasket and now at 351,000. Mine never over heated, I think I would spend some time and check to make sure nothing warped

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Check with a straight edge if the head is warped !! Did the engine run till it quit by itself or was it shut off??

These engines can be touchy change the compression the bottom ends like to fail

I have lots of these engines . far to many if your close to me. many head gaskets over the years

The torque specs are wrong in the FSM It should be 68 foot pounds ( Double Check this is off the top of my head .

If the rear head bolts are really burnt in might be smart to replace.

    Good Luck
