They are about the same height as a 265/75r16, which is one of the OEM recommended sizes. You'll be fine...

I thought OEM recommended 265/70R16 not 75R16. Am I remembering it wrong?

Your correct but thing is tire to tire there can be a difference anywhere from 10-45 dollars per tire when comparing the 70 series to the more popular 75 series.

    It's quite ridiculous.

Sometimes I think it has more to do with the fact most 265/70 ties are a 4 ply.

I guess they are different size molds in the process and all.

45 lbs in 235/85/16, 49 in a 265. I was thinking about going with the 235s but after seeing these pics I think I will stay with 265s. The Coopers in a 265 weigh the same as my current BFGs. Oh and my door sticker says 7' rim but it could be wrong. I had to add a new PSI tag.

I also have a 2.7 and I am going to try Mickey Thompson Baja STZ 265/75/16s on a set of stock aluminum wheels. They are 40 lbs and have a very nice tread pattern. They will not be on the truck full time, just when I want to explore. The truck normally has the stock Dunlops (32 lbs) on the same style of stock Aluminum wheels.

I'd like to see a pic of a Tacoma with the MT Baja STZs.

It's a v6. I got about 1.75" with the 885.. I added a 1/2" and 3/8" spacer to help level it out and lift it up to 2.25" of lift post original lift.. I have been driving on the 235's for almost a year and I gotta say they rocked in the snow and ice this winter. However I am considering going back to a 265 tire on the next set for softer lighter tire options.. Or I will say screw it and go to 255/85r16 :)

Ahh, the lure of the 255s. I'll end up there eventually I guess.

Anyhow, your 235s look great on that truck!

I would but im not impressed with the life of this tire at all. Just checked my records im currently 32k with .21 left of tread. I may even switch to 265 75 lighter tire with a better mileage warranty in some tires. Traction was never a issue with this tire just lifespan.

    Appreciate the info,

    I'm looking at a 6-ply Duratrac in the 265,
But for about 40 less per tire I could get the 235s.

I am wrestling with the gearing and my 4cyl,
Trying to remember if I run a 235 and in the sand once I air down the overall diameter is going to decrease quite a bit.
I guess I can always just go ahead and get the 235s and deal with the issues.
I am really looking at the General AT2 also, as they can be had for a great price here locally.

I appreciate all you guys keeping a thread of information going on this tire size and our 2.7L workhorses.

To be honest probably not the size to use for sand. This size worked excellent for snow because the psi for digging in not the effect you want for sand haha

isnt 235 the size most all expedition rigs used back in the day? I think most land rovers used this size over in africa with great success in sand.
