Does anyone have experience with 235/85/16s? Trying to see if they look alright on a 3rd Gen. Is the stability acceptable given how narrow they are?

Looking at st maxx in this size for weight savings. I hear that in the 255/85/16 the narrowness actually makes up for the added weight. That would be my preferred size if this is true.

I'm confused, are you considering 235's or 255's?

Both. I want a skinny but wondering if the 235 is too skinny for 3rd Gens. 255 fits and is documented to perform well on them, but are very heavy.

Ah. Well, the 235 tire would deflect less on the road than the 255 (and therefore probably feel more stable I think), but sacrifice about an inch of overall height. Looks wise I can't help you much.

All good Information. Not 3rd Gen particular but 235s look great on a 1st Gen, then meh on a 2nd Gen. I've yet to see a 3rd Gen with them but I can't imagine they look the best. Hope somebody can prove me wrong.

Good to know the f150s ran these stock at one point though. Makes me feel like they're definetly safe-ish.

SR trim trucks also run a 245/75-16, which would be closer to the look you're trying to find.

It is worth mentioning, the 235's only come in a load range E. They are basically dually tires, so they are going to be heavy.

I did not know this. Only a third of an inch difference between the width of that and a 235. Maybe they're alright o_O

Will they wear faster than a 255 or is it all relative?

Can't be heavier than any 255/85 out there.

My bet is the brand and tire compound will matter a lot more than width when it comes to wear. Width might be the difference between 39000 miles and 41000 miles.

Very true. If I remember correctly, there are two 255/85 options that are not load range E. But, if you are four wheeling, you probably want the extra strength anyway. I mention this for what it is worth.

I'm not aware of any non load E. Link?

Dropping some oil off at WalMart, and saw that they have the Good Year Wrangler Authorities in 235/85/16 for $89. They didn't look too bad. Made me think if I could do them on my 1st Gen.

I would say they look great on 1st Gens. Not sure if they fit stock but maybe

Thanks. I'm just thinking that they may be too narrow for the soft, sometimes deep, beach sand.
