Ok thanks. I have a 2.5" lift also now no topper or armor yet. Did you notice much power loss.

I didn’t notice any power loss. Mine’s a 4 cylinder so I was already used to it being slow on long uphills.

Ok thanks for replying again. Mine's 6 cylinder 5 speed but I pull a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer with it occasionally. Just trying to gauge how much they will affect towing.

I doubt you’d feel a difference in power. Now for towing, 235s would be great since they are E rated tires. However, they might have to be inflated to a higher PSI than a P rated tire to reach their max load capacity.

In my experience I notice over size tires with a trailer most. My 2009 F150 with 35's feels slightly sluggish compared to stock. But add a trailer and it gets worse gas mileage and has less power than it did with a car on a trailer stock, than it does now with my motorcycle on a small utility trailer. I have similar experience with my diesel truck I had before it too.

I just got my first Tacoma and I am really into the skinny expedition look. I am debating on a NATO style wheel or trying to find a good black aloy in 16”.

If you are running a 4cyl and weight is an issue run a light wheel...in my case a KMC enduro alloy (don't make those anymore I think). Gas milage was a huge concern for me and im very happy with the setup. 235s are generally LT tires so they are heavier (some would argue too serious of a tire for our light trucks) but they are tough...I run logging roads up in Maine and they get nasty so I wanted a LT tire. The wildpeaks are "cheap" compared to other brands and almost everyone that has them loves them. myself included. I just took them cross country on a 10k rd trip and they still look new. I ran them at 30psi when I got them but have bumped up to 45-47 now...slightly firmer ride, but the truck turns easier, the tires wear better, and I get great mpg...With the full expeditions setup (tent, rack, two big totes full of gear in bed, two people, and a bunch of gear in the cab I still average 20-21mpg every tank. Without all that I get 21-23. Powerloss was negligible.

If you ever have questions fire away

Sort of forgot about this thread. As an update I'm still running LT235/85R16 but recently replaced the BFG KO2 with Cooper S/T Maxx. No real complaints about the KO2 but the poor things got ripped to crap by a bad alignment that like an idiot I ran with for 5000 miles until the next rotation before checking tread wear. Bit of an expensive mistake...

Anywho, this time around I decided to try out the S/T Maxx as they have gotten a lot of love on TW. They are slightly heavier than the KO2 as the sidewalls have a bit more material in them. I've barely had them off-road yet nor have I aired them down yet either. One thing I did notice right away was less road noise but not clear how much of that is just new tires as opposed to KO2 vs. S/T Maxx. At least one person on TW has indicated they believe the S/T Maxx to be quieter in general.

FWIW they inflated these to 40 psi at Discount Tire. Previously I'd been running the KO2 at 46 psi based on matching the load pressure curves for the stock TRD OR P265/70R16 tires. I never did a chalk test but based on initial wear that seemed a bit high. I had settled on around 40 PSI for the KO2. Looks like Discount Tire was right about where I got by trial and error.

I'll probably chalk test the S/T Maxx in not too long.

I answered my own question. I think this tire size is perfect on a DCLB with a modest lift.

Oh Man! These tires ARE skinny! Totally lovin' it.

E rated Cooper Discoverer LT. 235/85/16.

These are going to work well with my ATC camper!

2019 TRD OR with 235/85R16 Cooper STT PRO's on SCS F5 4.5" BS Wheels. The F5's gave me the BS I wanted & the lighter wheels offset the additional weight of the tires, keeping my unsprung weight the same.

So far I really love this tire/wheel combo.

Truck is my daily driver so I'm keeping this build moderate; adventure-mobile camper.
