235/85/16 The Skinny

I’m sold on this size for winter and dirt but what have been your experiences running these on highway? How does it compare to stock on dry pavement?

I’m thinking Michelin Defender LTX m/s for a 70%-30% mix of pavement-gravel daily driving. Summer only. I have studded coopers on the way for the winter.

 

Haven't had stock in so long that I don't remember what it was like.
Been running this tire for a long time. May change to a different type of Goodyear with kevlar but in the same size next go around. They have more options now. For me it needs to be load range E and the teflon in the sidewalls have proven to be quite resilient.

They are stiff but not horrible. Very good in snow. Great tire size

Like them very much. Wearing very well. I didn’t even try to get through a winter here on the stock Firestone tires so I can’t compare. I know those stock tires would not be good enough. We do not get the ice you guys do - if we did I would go studded. I have a long steep driveway.

 

Very glad I stumbled on this thread. I've been racking my brain about what tire to go with in a 265-76-16. Specifically, trying to save weight but not sure whether I should go standard load or E load. This might be a good compromise for me between size, weight, price... Different options available in this size though, so I have some research to do.

Not sure about performance but as far as looks seems these look best on about a 7" wheel and I think I see a 7.5" and 8" wheel in this thread. In my case they'd be going on 7.5" faux beadlocks.

 

Goodyear has another load range E with kevlar sidewalls available in this size. More aggressive tread pattern too.

Stock suspension? Still liking the 235s? Thinking about going to,this size. Any front Profile views?

 

Took the pizza cutter plunge today. Traded some Michelin P245s with 70K for BFGs in 235. Added new Bilsteins set at .85 to the front as well. Back only appears to be about .75 higher now.
The spare doesn’t fit great, but we’ll work on that this weekend.

 

Thanks to this thread, I went ahead and got some falken wildpeaks 235/85r16. I almost changed my mind after seeing people seemingly surprised by my request for the size, but I'm so glad I didn't. Not sure why this size isn't more popular, it's perfect for a 2nd gen tacoma. Load range E feels better, not worse in my opinion.

 

Every time I get a new set the salesman tries to tell me it's not the right size. SMH

 

I got the same response, but it concluded with "well, as long as you've done your homework." After the tires were mounted, he came out to look and actually complimented the choice.

 

Here's a few more pics. Still amazed at how good they feel under 60 mph. Not the best 75+mph interstate tires, but certainly not bad. Weirdly, it feels like my transmission shifts way smoother now.

 

Any of you know if I'd have any rubbing problems running this size on a third gen 2WD SR???? MOST here are all 4WD and I think they look great on your rigs. I'm looking to upgrade tires for a little more capability on gravel/fire roads, NOT any serious off roading obviously with a 2WD.....

Looking good! Glad they don't rub, figured they wouldn't but didn't know for sure. I got to try mine in some deep snow the other day and it's laughable how much traction they have over 265/75.

When they arrived they just "looked" big when I rolled 'em over to the truck and kinda held them there to "gestimate" fitment...I was kinda sweating it there for a bit......I kept holding up the measuring tape at 32".....ehhh is it gonna work??? Of course mine is only a 2WD so.....But hey in the end it all worked out! I actually have the same size Cooper Discoverer's on my 69 F250 but on that truck I had no worries at all with fitment of course.....Now on the F250 I was going for that skinny 60's tire look...

 

235/85 r16 Falken Wildpeaks MT01 on RoadReady steelies. Lift is Bili 6112/5160 w/Icon RTX set for stage 1. Tires are great! Currently shopping for set of beadlock wheels for off roading (I have my mall terrain tires on a set of TRD Pro wheels which I switch out between trips) as the Road Ready wheels are not meant to be bounced off rocks and I want bit less positive offset.
