'24 Configurator now shows 228HP on SR Manual

What the actual hell Toyota? The SR manual, which previously had the full HP rating of the higher trims now shows 228 HP. This was literally the only configuration that was a reasonable value, until this change.

I think this has always been the case for the SR, the config has had some errors since the start. I don't know if that was one of them. I think the Spec page has always listed it as 228

Edit: My bad did not see you were talking about the manual. The config does have some strange bugs and errors still so hopefully it is just an error.

Edit2: It is showing 228 on the Off Road manual for me right now as well, so I would say its an error.

 

I'd say just a simple print error, the SR Manual was always supposed to be 270 HP.
Edit: You can see several YouTube video's with them on the lots, they are clearly 270HP.

 

Buy it and find out.

 

As of right now, the SR Manual 4x4 on configurator shows 270 hp. Maybe it was a brief glitch and they fixed it..

 

I think it depends on your computer, I still see 228.

 

I cleared my cache/cookies and re-loaded, and it still says 270HP. I completed the build, and downloaded the PDF, and that too says 270HP.

I put this question to Toyota a few days ago and they referred me to builder for horsepower rating of 270.

 

I know nothing about how this works, but guessing one of the many tune vendors out there will be able to write up a good tune package to allow these trucks to reach the full horsepower and not the choked down version Toyota is selling? Then again, it’s Friday.

 

Hmm. I thought from the beginning that the base models were detuned (auto or manual) due primarily to the fact that the base models would have reduced content to control NVH. Ie, simpler suspension; leafs, isolation components, mounts, sound deadening, etc. I dont know why they would allow more power with one tranny vs the other.

i don’t have any documentation at my fingertips, but if you go back and watch the interviews/discussions with Sheldon Brown, that seemed to be the messaging.
Thoughts?

 

Your memories differ from mine. I recall Toyota and Sheldon always being pretty clear the MT motor had one tune for the whole line up. 6k RPM redline is the tip off. No reason the SR would go to 6k and the OR/Sport 5.4k.

The website builder is wrong IMO.

Look, you could be right lol. It'd be great if Toyota would get their act together so we could stop trying to rely on our faulty memories though.

 

It’s Gen4, so just touch your credit card on the top of the dash, and you’ll get the extra 42 horsepower…

 

I’ve been trying to get a straight answer on this question for a couple weeks now. An opportunity at a gen4 SR MT came up and I ended up buying it. The paperwork said it was 270 but it also looked auto generated from Toyotas website. The dealer said 228 but I think he knew less than even I did.

The truck can get up and move between 3, 4, and 5. Having not test driven any Tacomas, not really sure how to tell for certain. Is there anyway to find this on the truck itself, or simple way to measure?

Window sticker?

 

I haven’t seen HP on any window sticker. Only way to know for sure is to put it on a dynamometer, or have insider knowledge of the ECU to see if any detune is done compared with a higher trim.

 

Window sticker doesn't show HP. I think what I was remembering is we had the Toyota inventory search pulled up which listed HP of the vehicle for sale. I just did a search for 4 gen SRs on Toyota and pulled this one which is listing 270.

 

I just checked, you are both correct. I'm like 90% sure that hp is listed on my wife's window sticker (Civic) although I could very well be wrong.
