Are these 17 or 18" wheels?

Customer: Spends hard earned money on truck designed to drive off road. Drives off road. Brake line gets muddy and subsequently damaged.
Dealer: You got mud on your brakes, that's what caused the failure.

Park the truck with slushy snow in the wheel, overnight freeze, gonna be rough on the brake line in the morning

They're 17" (Off Road)... Shouldn't matter, bad design with any diameter size wheel.

I don’t disagree. That cable looks really close to the inner wheel surface. I’d like to see the 18” wheels for comparison.

18" rims for comparison. Still pretty close.

On the 5th gen 4Runner (2 million built over 14 years), the brake hose is routed under the hard line flare nut bracket and doesn't protrude beyond the dust shield. Unfortunately, on the 2024 Taco, the parking brake actuator is in the way, so Toyota opted to route the hose differently.

On the other hand, the mechanical parking brake on the 4Runner is a piece of shit. Damn if you do, damn if you don't.

This will be recalled. The service rep said that the Toyota engineer has seen multiple cases of failure.

Not waiting for Toyota to make up their minds, I filed with NHTSA. This is a serious safety issue. Wonder what that healthy Toyo lead engineer that's on Youtube would say about this...

So... I got new tires. Swapped out the 4-ply car tires for a set of 10-ply LTs.

While they were off, I looked at the brake lines. They looked fine to me—well thought out. I should have taken a photo. :hattip:

Did you happen to notice if the technician inadvertently drop the wheel on the brake line upon installation.... "Well thought out" not in my world. Take a picture with the wheel on, from the rear, just like I did - maybe I missed something.

I don't think it can't be done. When you pull the rim off, it clears the brake line.

If you miss the wheel studs, the brake line will be compromised.

    I don't see how that's possible.

WTF was Toyota thinking? That's such a horrible brake line placement. My mind is blown.

Even with my bad lower back, I'll have crawl under the truck to look at mine. I'm concerned now. I had a set of brand new 16" Toyo AT3 tires I wanted to try to use on the Tacoma that had been on my Nissan, and my local tire shop sourced a set of 16" wheels that cleared the brakes (they said), but no one mentioned the brake line sticking up in those pictures posted above... Think I'm going to have to find a set of factory OR wheels and tires to put on until this design is updated.
