After 60 years of kaizen at Toyota, the new system is known as Kaiaku. Kaizen is quality improvement. Kaiaku is degradation.

I like the looks of the new Tacoma in certain colors (white is boring), but I’m curious to see if a 2024 can accrue this kind of mileage on the original engine…

There is one advantage to this newish 2.4 L turbo. It is going in everything. The Toyota shops will at least be good at fixing them and parts plentiful.

Putting that brake line there may have been a mistake on Toyotas part. Yikes

Does it still take 87, or does it require 89-93 due to the turbo?

It's a Toyota. I spit in the gas tank and pour heating oil and kerosene into it.

Now this actually depends on the vehicle.

    24 Land Cruiser: 91 octane.
    24 Tacoma: 87.
    24 Highlander / Grand Highlander: 87.
    24 Lexus RX350: 91

    Same engine in all.

So what would happen if you put 87 or 89 in the Land Cruiser?

You would be banned from pilates and laughed out of the country club for at least two weeks.

Probably not much if you were light on the throttle. Potentially a lot bad if you were loaded down and accelerating up an incline.

Edit: finding a lot of threads on the land cruiser forum about this. The people with $80,000+ SUVs use 87 octane to save money all the time and so far haven't reported any major issues (after a few months of ownership that is...).

Skip to 21:05. Not sure on this gentleman's credentials, but he's basically saying "look this is a way to massage the spec sheet and get another 5% output if you use premium."

This theory doesn't pan out though. When I looked at the I Force Max Tacoma versus the Land Cruiser, both have identical horsepower and torque.

I suspect this is a market differentiating deal. The Tacoma buyer is not the same as the Land Cruiser buyer. So if you're going to drop the coin on the Land Cruiser, you probably can afford an extra $4 dollars a tank to fill up with premium.

If its anything like the previous Lexus motors it is going to downtune power output to avoid fuel detonation. I'm guessing the LC is tuned for higher compression/cylinder temperatures.

Living on rural roads the inside of the wheels are always caked with fine dust summer ice in winter, the build up is considerable, the taco will never have that problem , as those lines will clear it out one less thing for me to do until I end up in the drink, wake up engineers.

wondering what the temporary solution to this would be until if/when toyota recalls? some sort of cable wrap to improve the strength?

I don't know about temporary solution, but it seems like some kind of right-angle brake fitting could solve the problem.

honestly considering just swapping to SS lines ahead of time to limit this possibility... going to have to search into which are the most recommended now.. ty for the suggestion!
