I had a deposit on a tacoma but thus 23 zr2 came up for sale. I went and drove it and was blown away. Obviously none of us have driven the tacoma but ill share what I love about the colorado. The interior is crazy nice. Accent stitching, big screens and configurable dash, really nice seats with leather as standard in the zr2.
The engine is a powerhouse. I am coming from a 600whp modified cummins. I drove a 23 tacoma last week and was so disappointed by the v6. This turbo in the colorado was just what I wanted in a small truck. The midrange is rediculous. It is surprisingly quick at any speed, even highway passing speeds.
I liked the 8 speed auto. It isn't always in the perfect gear, but it like the ratio spacing and the tall 8th gear. I feel like I could re gear it for 35s and 8th would still be tall enough to go 85+ without screaming.

    Cons:
The engine sound is weak. No turbo noise and just a mechanical quiet rattling engine sound. The sound doesent fit the engines power and feel.
The stereo is weak. It will need an upgrade.
Mileage is mediocre, but thats the price you pay for power and big tires.
I bought it with no markup. 50k.

First off.... Congrats!! your truck looks badass.

Does the engine have the fake noise that plays through the speakers? or is it just ambiently weak.

    thanks again :)!

Do you have the base sound system or the Bose upgrade? I see in 2024 they are offering a Kicker sound system for around $800 I think?

    In upstate NY, YMMV...
    1. Chevy dealers don't want used Chevy trucks back on trade (they always told me to sell privately). *My trucks are super low mileage and showroom condition.
    2. Local Chevy, Ford, Ram dealers will always take a Tacoma in on trade (with good value).

Even though you don't initially think of Trade InValue as a concern, when you want a new truck and they give you the brush off (Chevy), I'm all in on Tacoma.
    Just my $0.02

That is a very valid point, unless, like me, you are retired and looking to buy your last vehicle ever. Then the reliability is the concern - will this vehicle last me the 20 years I hope to need. More than likely the Tacoma will outlast the Chevrolet and be cheaper to repair/maintain. At the same price point, the Colorado is the easy winner today. However, there is no clear winner for the total ownership experience over time IMO. I am in the decision phase, no conclusion yet. Heck, haven't even seen a 2024 Tacoma let alone driven one.

Colorado looks interesting in some ways but no 6' box option? LOL. Makes it a non-starter for me.

Mine has the base stereo. I'll have to upgrade eventually. I don't hear any fake engine noise. An intake with some turbo sounds and induction noise might be in the future. The ride is also impressive. Firm and controlled but soaks up potholes.
Also it is limited to 98mph. A tune will fix that. Ha.

I do like the new Colorados. However, Tacoma resale value is unbeatable. You can own one for a few years and sell it for close to what you paid. Not so with a Chevy.

This may not be the case with the new gen. Turd gen was the last “cheap” one that didn’t “depreciate” imo.

If you don’t mind your paint peeling, radios intermittently working and turbos failing go for the Colorado. I work at a Chevy dealer, I know what not to buy lol.

edit apparently you’re not allowed to voice a opinion if someone else disagrees with it*

2nd edit, I’m not in the market for a new vehicle. Just wanted to post some issues for people that may be in the market for a Colorado to look into.

But don’t Toyota techs see Toyotas with problems every day? Seems like selection bias might be happening

Telling someone to avoid a Colorado for peeling paint while owning a Tacoma is a bold fucking move!!!

Meant no disrespect, as I know they do. It’s a first year model so I’d stay away. They’re nice trucks but I guess having an opinion is not allowed here.

Wow calm down, never said don’t buy it. Just stating what I’ve seen in the very short time that the new Colorados have been out.

Having an opinion isn’t a problem. Having it questioned shouldn’t be, either

Nah man it’s all good! I’m just messing with you!
I like all the trucks on the market is the issue. So some guys here have an issue with me not shitting all over non Tacoma trucks. I get it, working on GM trucks all day you are more aware of issues.
6.2 GM motors have issues, my dads has no issues in 3 years so he finds his to be reliable. Is he the 1/10 owner or the 9/10 owner? Usually the upset customers are louder than the happy ones.

ok good, last thing I want to do is make anyone mad.

That is the truth, we had a run on 6.2s for a while but it seems to be getting better.

Don’t get me started on the transmission issues haha.

I want the colorado ZR2 badly but the roofs dent if you go through a car wash (strong blowers vs no sunroof), lots of issues with windows not rolling down or seeing multiple windows rolled down in the middle of the night, all the windshield cowls are breaking, screen going black, collision avoidance will go full brakes if a car pulls out a qtr mile ahead, BSM decides when it wants to work, OTA updates don't shut down leaving the truck bricked. many of the replacement parts for these problems (the ones that require parts) are backordered for months.

Sure not all trucks have all these problems, but this what I've observed after joining a couple FB groups exactly 1 weeks ago. I drove one that was on the lot and it's nice. Just like the OP said it sounds weak, but I could hear turbo spooling. Didn't hear any fake noise. The interior looks really nice but it's cheap. I pushed and pulled on the door grabs and it's flimsy.
