I agree that toyota quality control is likely to be superior. Everyone's priorities are different. For me, paying 50k for the chevy with the same or greater off roading potential as a trd pro at 62++k was worth it. For some the Toyota will make more sense. I have one day of ownership and 800 miles. I had to sell my old truck 390miles away. I round tripped it with a buddy.
No problems yet. It is a superb road trip truck. The tech and screens are intuitive for a non techy person like me. 18mpg driving it hard averaging 75ish.

Sweet ride! Just test drove a AT4 today. Was a fun drive...almost forgot how fun it was from when I drove one in May. I will have to start doing the pros and cons on it vs a load Sport since they are the same price. Need to find a Denali to test drive.

I have a 2024 Sport+ allocated to me and it is supposed to arrive in feb. My dealer is supposed to get a demo sometime in Jan for test drives. I have also driven quite a few new Colorado's over the last 6 months, they are awesome highway drivers..love the power. If the test drive Taco does'nt have the highway manners and the nice power delivery of the twins...I guess there will be a Z71 or AT4 in the driveway. They are all the same price..$58k CAD.

my update after driving a z71 (conv. package 3)!

Drives very well handles bumps/potholes extremely well. Don't know if its a driver setting but it almost felt like regenerative breaking (the coast seems to actively slow versus just coasting... only took on a test drive so couldn't really get used to it). The biggest Con was the turbo kicked on every single time you touched the accelerator. Even if it was just barely, or in reverse, which i feel like i'll be hearing the turbo spool in my sleep.

I obviously don't know how a tacoma will drive, but I got the chevy dealer down to 41.5 out the door for a z71 conv pkg.3, which is a standing offer as long as the cars on the lot. It came in the best color too (desert sand :))

I went from an 09 Tacoma that I put 200k on to a 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 6.2 that I've so far put 37k on. Both have given me no major issues. I had to fix a lot of stuff on the last 40-50k in my Tacoma but nothing that is major or shouldn't need addressing with that many miles. (wheel bearings, U joints, all new brakes and components etc.)

My personal opinion is that Toyota used to build a simpler vehicle than the competition which allowed them to put more into the critical drivetrain components, overbuilt. My 09 Tacoma didn't have half the options that other midsize truck in 2009 had and I was ok with it at the time. It was rock solid and I trusted it. However, with the 3rd gen Tacoma that started to change and they have completely caught up with the new Tundra and 4th gen Tacoma. The 3rd gen had a flurry of issues and some still plague it today and the new Tundras I am familiar with, owned by friends, have similar issues. Nothing major but the annoying shit that Toyota avoided by having less options and tech available in the past. (The Toyota infotainment system is garbage in comparison... that's just an opinion.)

While Toyota refused to make those offerings the other brands caught up, it's a great time to be a truck owner with solid options all around.

Now, the pricing is coming out for the 4th gen. If you can save 4-6k and find another truck you like available a different brand, go for it. I really don't think you can go wrong, especially with the new Colorado/Canyon. The 24 Ranger isn't out yet and I think it's going to be a while. It's built at the same plant as the Bronco and history says they will be really hard to find and marked up early (especially for the desired trims) Don't overlook the Frontier either, solid truck and better equipped for less $$.

Yes. Especially since most of the midsize truck manufacturers have chosen to discontinue the Access Cab (with doors) and 6 ft bed configuration.
Nissan being the lone holdout. Toyota made a dumb decision to not provide the "xtra cab" option to higher trim levels (Sport/OR).

Maybe dumb, maybe not. I’d bet that there wasn’t a ton o demand for high trim access cabs in the third gen

Exactly. Just because 10 guys here want an access cab, doesn’t mean 95% of consumers feel the same way.

As a dicwad member (dual income with a dog), access cabs could be useful. But the dog is too big and would enjoy a double cab way more.

I’m a dual-income-little-dog-owner and my xtra cab is great for that but I’m still buying a double so we have more options for bringing friends along

I know. It is a financial decision based on sales. Still, Toyota has been one of the manufacturers who have offered far more configurations than others in the past.
And, the "xtra cab" thing irks me, and the 10 other guys who want an access cab with doors! o_O

Wasn’t the Access Cab 36% of sales? Last year Toyota sold 234K Tacomas. Little more than just 10 guys.

So if you want easy rear cab access and a 6’ bed/4WD it is a $6200 increase.

SR XCLB 4WD $34,700. (No DCLB in the SR, have to bump up to the SR5]
    SR5 DCLB 4WD $40,900.

Question is are those faithful Access Cab owners going to bump up to the DCLB or go look somewhere else?

They sold 36,000 more Tacomas, I don’t see any data showing 36% as a split. In fact I cannot find any data breaking down sales by trim/cab/etc. Here is the link for the 36k more.

Ahh there it is, got the 36 number cornfused!

Still 36,000 is more than 10. :p Heck, Nissan only sold 58K Frontiers total for ‘23.

They’ll sell even less of the XtraCab is my guess and discontinue it altogether.

Even if ACs were 36%, which is doubtful, how many were non-fleet sales of higher trims? I’d bet it’s not a lot. Hence keeping the extra cab at the low end.

I think I have told you in the past that, for me, the Tacoma DCLB would just fit in my garage with about 1/2 inch to the wall of the garage.
That makes parking it a bit risky unless I put in some form of barrier to keep me from bumping into the wall! 2023 DCLB 226 inches vs 2023 ACLB 213 inches.
And I really do not like the way the 4 door long bed looks. It looks long! Which it is.
That and the fact that I would have to move my beer refrigerator....

I never really paid much mind to my garage size when I purchased my house, but I should have, especially since I went from a garage that could hold a company leased Silverado 4 door with a long bed!
It was not a factor with a company car and my midsized Tacoma.

If I found a workable sleeping arrangement (with the rear closed, no tents) in the short bed I might think about the DCSB.
I need someone to manufacture a light cot that will fit diagonally in the 5 foot bed.
