I recently scored a set of SR5 4runner wheels ( 17" snowflakes?) that I was going to resell, but as keep seeing pics of 2nd gen Tacos with these wheels, I like the look. I don't necessarily want to go to a huge tire, I'm on a stock suspension and plan on keeping it that way.

A 245/70/17 would keep me at a stock size overall diameter but there's not many tires available in that size. I see lots of the 245/75/17 available, even as new take-offs from Jeep JLs. Lot's of screaming deals on Bridgestone Dueler AT's in that size, which would be fine for the way I use my Taco.

I'm using the old school rule-of-thumb in that a tire should be 2"-4" wider than the wheel width, so the 245 just makes it. Is that rule still relevant? I don't want to have the uber-retarded "stretched" look..

Those 4Runner snowflakes are only 7" wide, and 245mm is 9.6" so there's no possible way it'll look stretched.

265/65R17 is the stock size the TRD Sports came with, and while 20mm wider it's only ~0.2% diameter difference from the 245/70R17.

It would be fine but you would also find smoking deals on 265 take offs from 4runners. Bridgestone Dueler HT Or Dunlop Grandtrek AT's.
