Hey guys , Ive been lurking around until I knew I wanted to pull the trigger on a new truck but wanted to see what everyone here thought .
My wife wants to get the 2020 Tacoma Sr5 double cab and our dealership is telling us that thieir price is 24,313. Seem reasonable ?
I told her we may want to get the V6 but we don't really tow anything , so would the 4cyl still perform nicely ? It seems to be about 4-5k difference .
    Thanks!

That seems very reasonable to me. The V6 was only another $1,500 when I bought mine, but my SR5 was in the high twenties with the tow package and nerf bars and stuff that they’d already tossed on there. I would have considered a four-banger if it was that much less.

(I drive up steep, sustained mountain roads, and I wanted to be able to get up them easily with four people and gear and bikes in the back, so I went with the V6. And the MPGs are basically the same.)

Yeah man depends on what the primary use will be! If you want to load it up with gear regularly or tow. Might want to consider the 6 cylinder.

saw the not towing comment lol my bad.

Honestly wont be towing anything and we live in San Diego, so no crazy mountains unless we travel during the winter time to snowboard .

That’s usually the number 1 regret. Not the motor size.

    I think it’s a great deal
The 2 wheel drive truck is much lighter and the 4 cylinder is a great motor and will be fine, in my opinion.

Test drive it under service loads: eg does it accelerate fast enough, does it hold highways speed comfortably etc. and my go to with a 4-banger is go manual.

It’s not significantly lighter. Maybe 200lbs but that’s being generous.

Is that price confirmed in person? Only asking because it's become common to offer a low price online or on the phone only to add some BS when you show up to buy it. If that's real it's a great deal. The 4 cylinder will be fine for you and now that Automatics have 6 gears, you won't think it's slow unless you like to race people or do 30 over the speed limit.

I initially wanted a 2WD 4 banger but they didn't have the one advertised on their website. Said it would be in in a week. Didn't want to wait so they made me a sweet deal on a loaded SR. As loaded as a SR gets I suppose. It's got a V6, 4WD, Keyless entry, etc. I would have preferred a MT but they didn't have one and didn't know when or if they were getting one. Told me everybody wanted the auto. BS I know but not a deal breaker.

I thought it was more like 400 lbs / 10% lighter - per Toyota. Have you put them both on scales?

I am very pleased with the V6. Test drive both and see what you think.

I’ve converted a truck to 4wd. It’s not 400lbs worth of stuff that is added.

    • Get the v6. The truck is way too heavy for the 4 cly. You’ll have a much more valuable Truck come trade in time, that gets as good if not better mileage.

I'd never consider a 4cyl in this truck. I'd wait it out, I have a funny feeling new vehicles in the US are going to get a hell of a lot cheaper along with 0% financing.

Based on your needs you are on the right track.
I think the price is good and stick with the 4 banger.
