is 21mpg (U.S.) really something to brag about? Isn't the truck rated for that, or close to that?

I finally got the 23 mpg as stated, 82 miles non stop @ 65 mph, these trucks really eat gas when you stop and go

2.7 as well, and anything over 70mph.

I was hoping to get 20mpg on 35's with my 2.7, but it constantly feels like I'm fighting a headwind. I'm hoping for 18.5.

^ Yep. I just took another long trip out to Ohio ... kept it reasonably slow for a bit(65 or so) and got a 24mpg tank. Maintaining 70+ on the way home got me about 19 and 19.5.

If I half ass some hypermiling, it's pretty easy to see 25.5-26mpg in the 2.7L. I haven't had the patience to try to get above that, but I think 27-28 is possible during the warmer months.

I get the best mpg with the tonneau on, and less if I take it off (empty bed), but with a large, irregular, tarped load it was like towing a parachute. 75 mph cruise is a lot worse than 65, but saying all that, I have no problem getting 22.5 mph on a 65-75 mph cruise with the tonneau and A/C on for a 400 mile trip including stops.

I had a 30 mile stretch on this tank where I got 27.2 us MPG. I babied it the whole way, and completely forgot to do so when I got back from my work trip. It's down to 23 mpg now though.

My brother just got a 2017 Tacoma van motor auto AC 4wd TRDOR for work. It'll have a small diesel tank, drive in Seattle, traffic, etc. Ill report on those #s soon. But I'm guessing they'll be pretty crappy.

I've actually gotten 24 US before, not doing anything special but crusing at 65 on the highway. 20s are pretty regular on my commute home from work, mostly 35mph in town streets, thats what really impresses me

Its funny that you posted that as I got the exact same mileage too and that was in 4HI. Mind you I wasn't going highway
speeds because of the awful whiteouts and snow packed roads (11.2 L /100km) and yes I was driving like a grandpa. I was shocked haha. I haven't seen that
since, as I do almost all city driving.
