i don’t have any personal experience with JL’s slim subs unfortunately. I used to install a long time ago, pre slim.

On another note from a different comment, I don’t really go above like 40 on the factory hu with my setup. Generally 20-35 is my zone. Don’t know if that makes any difference with anything, but that’s my experience.

Yup same here. I’ll crank it to about 50 on a great song sometimes but always keep it short. With enough power you’ll almost never turn it up to that.

You can get really good sound with enough effort. You just can’t really think about the budget too much because keeping the factory radio is the one compromise you’ve already made that has the greatest impact so you are stuck buying really quality gear and every little thing like speaker mounts and door treatment makes a difference.

Have you considered bypassing the head unit for music? Maybe using a separate HD player or USB out on a phone through a DAC or sommat? If you pick up a DSP with a decent DAC built in, that should be easy enough. And some will play music right off a USB drive/other sources.

Good idea, I can just change the input. One of the DSP's Im looking at has an aux rca in, and an optical in as well as bluetooth.

So it looks like there are a few cheaper head unit options (cheaper than the $200 Pioneers that still have issues) like the Joying and Dasaita.

I really like the look of the Dasaita, just have to find out if they have the wiring harnesses for the newer tacomas.
