Can't find much on this size, so here's my dilemma (seemingly a pretty common one):

    1. Want taller tires for increased ground clearance + aesthetics
    2. Don't want a heavy tire (load range E). Would prefer to keep tire/wheel combo close to stock.
    3. Want an all-terrain with 3 peak severe weather rating (lots of trips to mountains)
    4. Don't want to modify ride height (defeating the purpose of the Pro) or do extensive fender modifications.

With all that said, people seem to fall into three camps:

    1. 265 75 16s: Increases diameter from 30.6 to 31.6, limited availability to meet items 2 and 3 (duratracs, falken wildpeaks, cooper at3 4s)

    2. Go big: 285s, deal with rubbing or chop/mold to fit.

    3. Pizza cutters. Really only see discussion on 255 85 16s... All seem to be load range E, no severe weather rating.

255 75 17 BFG K02s, in load range C weigh 46lbs with a 32.1" diameter. Seems about perfect for our trucks... So I guess I'm just wondering why I don't see anyone running them on here?

Idk...maybe because theres not a big difference between 255/75r17 and 265/70r17 which is what most stock suspension owners put on after their 265/65r17s wear out

I'm going with the 255/75r17 BFG K02 for most of the reasons you have stated. I'm putting an Icon Stage 4 lift on my TRD Off-Road but setting the lift for only 1.5". Was looking at the very popular 285 but don't want to do the CMC at this time, nor take the weight/mileage hit that goes along with them. From what I've seen from research the 255 on an 8.5" wheel doesn't look all that skinny.

I like the 255/75/17 size as well. LR C/D, A/T tread availability, etc. I believe it comes stock on Rubicon's. Should be a good size for what you're looking for. When I go to switch out the stock tires, this size will be a strong contender.

The trd Pro comes with 16s not 17s. FYI.

Yup. I ended up going with 265 75 16 Duratracs because I hadn't found something I liked in the right offset without spending $$$. Will probably go 255 75 17s down the road though.

Im glad that you posted this. I’m going from 265/75/16 to 255/75/17 for 3 reasons:

    1. A lot more tire options that I can’t find in other sizes like Yokohama, Cooper and Hankooks.

    2. They are surprisingly lighter in most tires compared to the 265 size. Improves MPGs too due to less wasted friction and a more focused tread pressure

    3. 255’s are the ideal size for these trucks and perform very well offroad compared to wider tires which float vs digging. Testing verified

There is on average a 12 lb more per tire with the 255/85/16 because of more side wall

I'm planning on KO2 load C in this size as well once my OE tires wear out.
But like someone else mentioned, the wheel is the tougher decision for me. I prefer the factory wheel options (I have no interest in attracting attention), but offset is the challenge.

See my earlier post with factory wheels. Or you could use the 17” TRD Pro 4Runner SEMA wheels.

Sure, I guess just in my opinion, the 3rd gen doesn't look right with older-gen wheels.
But now that you mention it, I think I had actually decided on the 4Runner Pro wheels already and forgot...

I run 255/75/17 goodyear duratracs. They weigh less than the BFGs and I get about the same MPG as stock. I'll most likely replace with the same size when I'm ready to replace.

When the KM3 is out, if not already, it is a far better tire and rides way smoother

KO3? I’ve seen nothing on this. Or did you mean KM3?

    KM3, my bad.

A guy I spoke with has these on his 4Runner and he says the ride so much nicer than the KO2’s

Most of the current available sizes are all load range E and the 285/70/17 is 67.37lbs, the 285/75/16 is 64.46lbs.

A large tread block MT with better ride than an AT? Or did you mean better ride than the KM2s?
