I think there's also a toyo commercial tire that's even more expensive.

i have a friend that had a set of the trxus MT and he loved them! he got 40k out of his set and another friend has a set or thronbirds on a xj thats the same rubber compound and is sitting at 35k on those with still plenty of tread left. idk if you have had a set or you just hear this through the grapevine but interco makes good tires. they are a mud terrain tire. they arent going to last forever like a standard road tire. you will have to replace them more often then those, but if thats a HUGE problem then dont buy a MT and get an AT.

    i had them...and offroad...fantastic tire...no complaints whatsoever...

however mine would flat spot...wore out at around 25K give or take...not real sure...and tread wear was extremely uneven even after multiple balancings and alignments

the only reasons they would flat spot would be either with improper inflation and sitting for a long period of time or you locking up the brakes. there are no other ways for them to flat spot. as far as uneven wear, if you getting flat spots then there is your problem. regular rotation will also help the uneven wear. as far as tread life goes if we all slow down while driving and dont take corners like a sports car they will last even longer. tires really depend on each driver individually.

all that said i purchased a set and am waiting for my wheel spacers to come in to get mounted up.....

You sound defensive. I've bought two sets of used tires from Tigerfan, it isn't his driving habits. Interco uses a soft compound in their tires. Makes them amazing off road and they get great traction but they just don't hold up to road wear. Sure you can baby a set of interco tires to 40k but that doesn't put them in the same category as stiffer BFGs that you could beat the shit out of for 50k. BFGs, no matter what technological super pattern they come up with next, won't perform as well as interco dedicated offroad tires IMO. There's a reason dedicated trail rigs all run boggers and iroks. There's also a reason DDs run BFGs or similar.

So if I put a 2" Spacer in the front and nothing in the back, will I be able to fit these tires? 255s I mean. :)
I think that will level it...

no defensive at all, just argumentative. but pay attention to his complaints of the tire other than him saying they wont last passed 25k miles. flat spotting. if he is getting flat spots on tires then he is doing one of those 2 things. both of which will happen to alot of tires. thats all. as far as driving, i dont beat the shit out of my truck. its a truck....not a sports car. if people are looking for something "spitited" to drive then the tacoma is far from it. its gutless. why drive it like a sports car when it barely can get out of it own shadow. these arent autox rigs they are trail rigs. meant to go slow and strategically.

again not being defensive, i just like to argue:cool:

    they werent improperly inflated

theres 1 thing vehicle maint related that im super picky about and thats tire inflation

they would flat spot just sitting in the driveway over night...thats not long term

ive run 3 different brands of mud tires and im now on a set of all terrains

ive had no issues from any of the others...and as luni said...i was able to sell the other 2 sets with treadlife left after just as many miles

flat spots also shouldnt cause severe cupping where every other set of lugs is worn down...typically thats a sign of improper inflation...but...again...thats one of the biggest things i pay attention to with vehicle maint.

Interco tires are not designed for the roads...period...they are a softer rubber compound that works better offroad...

    2nd Gen Questions:

would 255/85/16s on 16x8 w/ 4.5" BS rub at all?

what about 255/80/17 on stock sport wheels?

^^x2^^I'm thinking about adding 255/80/17 to my stock sport wheels with nothing but eibachs. I think it would work because from what I've read on here its the width and wheel offset combined with a three inch lift that causes the rubbing on control arms & body mounts & mud flaps.

Based on the Expedition West guys im sold on the 255/85/16. Im now trying to decide on a particular rim. I dont mind the skinny tire look but i want a wider stance, both aesthetically and for balance. I definitely wont be running wheel spacers because i actually off-road, i'm looking into some pretty small backspacing. What kind of effect would running a 16x8 rim with 2.50 inch backspacing have? Anyone have pictures of 255/85/16 on a very small backspacing (4" or less)? I'll be starting a build thread pretty soon, but i'm just collecting all my info. The theoretical plan would be running the 255/85/16 Toyo Open Country on this rim http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=PCW98-6883R2.5

Are you talking about the 255s or 285s?
I have the 255s on 1st Gen TRDs which would be like putting on 3/4" wheel spacers due to BS difference.
No issues, no cutting & no rubbing (except slight brush on mud flap bump if I bounce the front end real hard at full lock)

I wish there were more options in the 255. The tire im running now in a 265 i freaking love it. They only other size they make that i would consider is the 285 which is a huge 285 coming in at 33.2 inches tall.
