    @ OZ-T

The Cooper ST's were good in the snow, both on and off road. I was able to easily ascend some winter trails that other Tacoma's fitted with BFG AT's struggled. EDIT: I Should also mention that the BFG's were 285's....so maybe the narrower 255's were able to bite more in the snow.

I've never ran a full on snow or studded tire (on this truck) as comparison, but the ST's did pretty well. Plus I should add that I grew up in MN, and live in CO, so winter driving is no stranger.

(EDIT: I've also added one additional comment to my post above)

    Cheers,

    Lars

Does anyone have the link to the thread with all the tires in 255 listed?

My 255/85/16 Coopers are better than my 265/75/16 BFG's in snow. That is deep 3"-14" of snow. Tacoma's are 1 wheel drive unless in 4X4 (my 08 TRD is). When i'm driving on snow packed/ice covered roads the 265 has more traction. Driving in snow, not plowed packed roads the taller 255 is the way to go. I purchased the 255/85 Coopers after looking at the specs. The cooper tread width is wider than the MK2 but the sect. width is wider on the MK2 than the cooper.
All I can say is the cooper 255 on roads in deep snow was better. On the lake or roads with packed snow the wider tire was better.

I wanted to say in 4X4 the 255/85 were still better in deep snow than the 265'S.

Anyone in here running 255's without their fender flares? I have mine off right now to paint black but I'm kinda liking the way it looks without them. Makes my armor and tires look more substantial.

I'll post pics tonight after work, but I'm cirious if anyone else has taken there's off as well.

Mine are off on the rear. My tires partially ripped them off so I removed them until I get them trimmed.

I have thought of doing this for a while now. Looking forward to your pics. If I could find a base model in all white to swap fenders and bedsides and front bumper with I might do this. The offset on my trd rims has tires even with flares. Without flares they would stick out just enough to be awesome.

Went ahead and put them back on. Painted black to match my rack, wheels and tool boxes. I think it looks better

Well, I killed one of my ST 255's last weekend so it's time for new rubber ASAP.

I'm considering the Cooper ST Maxx, but on the fence about sticking with 255's or giving 285's a swing.

Anybody going to talk me out of 285's? :)

    Cheers,

    Salt

    In theory at least:

    Worse fuel milage
Slightly shorter tire IE less GC
Possible fitment issues with fenders, flares, frame, body mount, and/or UCA.

I do like the way 285s look, but that's about it
