Alright....alright....I'm starting to shake off my 285 lust in favor for a reality check. Let's see if my clarity holds. :)

255's fit on my truck, no rub no fuss.
Better MPG, plus I tow a Fleetwood Graphite Popup camper for family trips.
Smaller investment, I already own a 255 spare.

ST Maxx is still high on my list. I'm headed out to drive the white rim as a support vehicle for a MTB trip for my co-workers. Gotta pull the trigger ASAP.

    Thanks fellas.

They are supposed to be a pretty good tire from what I can tell.

I want to get a set of 36x12.50R16's TSL Radials though. Throw them on a stock wheel and they measure about 10" wide. n0rth is running a set of them and has over 30K miles on them and they still have a lot of tread left! My KM2's have about 15K on them and are practically bald:pout:

My Km2's are at 13K and look like they have maybe 5k more miles. Like wth? I've had them for a year.

What are the load rating of the tires you have now to the toyos? I'm guessing they are probably both E rated but it wouldn't hurt to check, maybe the toyos were C or D rated?

So what do you think so far? How much do you drive that truck? How is it on the street and highway? Have you regeared?

I run around 44 on my D load Cooper STs. Try increasing your pressure. I had the same issue at lower pressures. Check out the Toyo Load Index charts here.

+ 1 to what Maxx said. Also you have a lot of new tread. The tread flexes some and will give you that wandering feeling. I have the same experience with my new ST Maxx tires (18/32nds of tread) give it a couple thousand miles and it will get better. I also saw this when I worked at Goodyear. Guys would come back saying it feels like they're in a boat with the back end moving around like that.

I had a similar issue without the rubbing, though I have trimmed the inside of my mudflaps for a little more clearance. The 255/85/16 (33x10) Cooper S/Ts that I run benefitted immensly from road force balancing. I think the skinny aspect being so close to the rim width transmits the road surface straight along the sidewall to the rims giving much more feedback. Personally I like it for the highway and run pressures in the 50's.
