So basically the tires are made to legal specs already, but they have to have the stamp saying they are legal to be legal? haha

One question please. I am currently running Konig CounterSteer Offroads in 16x8. These wheels have a zero offset. I was using Chux's truck as a go by to see how the 255's would look, compared to my 285's, on my truck. I noticed that the Stealth rims have a -10mm offset. Which, I think, means that his will stick out farther. If I am right, I was going to see if anyone has 255's on a zero offset. If I'm on the wrong rabbit trail, straighten me out please.

I'm curious as to whether 255-85-16 would fit on my 09 4x4 dbl cab (base) without lift and without rubbing when off road or turning at lock. I have researched but have not found anything. Thoughts?

Thanks, but that post mentions that they work on a small lift but does not indicate that they were tested without a lift. Does that mean they won't work? If a lift is needed would it just be leaving the front or would work on the rear be needed?

I had new tires put on last Friday, BFGoodrich KM2 255/85R16. Right off the bat I've got a little rubbing on the front driver side tire on the mud flap. So...the mud flap is now gone. Haven't noticed any other rubbing yet.

I got my 255 KM2s installed yesterday. They feel great on the road so far at lower speeds, however they do seem to wander a bit more on the freeway than my 265s did. And they are slightly louder than I was hoping for but its no big deal.

I ended up sticking with my stock wheels for now. I've been spending a little too much money.

Anyway, the stock wheels are 16x7, and I think the offset is 30 and backspace is 5.25.

I just installed 255/85/16 ST Maxx's on my truck, 32 psi for daily driving. It has a 2" lift but the factory UCAs. I'm shocked by how quiet these tires are. No rubbing and the spare fits under the truck. I'm very pleased with the tire so far, but on the highway (speeds greater than 60mph or so) the truck wanders a bit. This wasn't the case with my previous tires, 265/75/16s. Would aftermarket UCAs minimize this issue? I've got an Icon lift and about 2" of lift in the back with some AALs. I split my time between AZ and Durango. My Durango place is at the top of a mountain via a forest service road. Most of my off road stuff is more of the overland variety. If aftermarket UCAs are the ticket, recommendations would be appreciated. I'm leaning towards the Light Racing or Total Chaos. I've still got about 1" of lift remaining with the Icon Coilovers and was also considering the Dakar Expedition leafs which would also have me raising the front to about 2.75" for a level stance.

I have a set of Method DoubleStandard wheels (16x8, zero offset) with a set of new 255/85 R 16 Cooper ST tires mounted for my 2012 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4. I had rubbing at full turn even on easy street driving. (No wheel spacers). I found a good deal on some First Generation Tacoma allow wheels (16x7" wide) and want to put the 255/85 tires on these wheels but have been dragging my feet. Others have said this works fine but I want to have them powder coated befor mount in the tires. I am still running 265/75R16 Duratrac tires on the same Konig Countersteer wheels with rubbing only on the most severe off road flexing. Truck has Icon extended travel suspension with 1.5" lift from stock. I gotta get the "skinnies" on the truck......

You are going to probably hit the top of the wheel well on a bad bump. Either lift or get 265/75/16

Those who are feeling wandering: You are probably getting in the highway ruts more. These skinny tires will give far more feedback, especially offroad. It can help with more precision in that case. You might get better stability from a widened stance. I plan on adding 1" spacers to my stock rims.

Thanks Chicken. Would 2. 5" (bilstein) front and add a leaf in back do it?

Thanks man. I'm not much on cutting and trimming and such so I need to get rid of these 285's. Might just get some 265's. I don't do much offroading anyway. Mostly hunting and snow trails during winter.

I dont think UCAs will help, I have LR UCA and noticed a slight wandering when I switched to 255s. I think you just have to get used to it.

Only if you add a shock to the rear as well and don't mind trimming your rear flares.

The 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 will be great because they will retain the most MPG and there's no trimming from my knowledge.

UCAs only help with the alignment... and articulation if you get to that

Wandering could be due to crappy alignment from stock uca's. Also, the added caster from aftermarket uca's helps give a heavier steering feel that helps with wandering in the highway
