^^^^ This! Doing any other way is just stupid and asking for safety related problems. Ignoring tire manufacture specs is probably a great way to win a Darwin award.

Rim width range for 255/85/16 is 6.5-8. Similarly, 265/75/16 recommends 7-8, but thousands of people run 32's on 8.5 or 9's.

For the record, here's a 235 on a 9.5" rim... its not about whether its possible/safe, it clearly is possible... safe I wont speak to. I want to know if it looks stupid and will fail to protect the wheel (like this does).

    **Also, before you all fling crap;

-245's also have a range up to 8
-255's in 17" sizes tend to have 8.5 max

Its these reasons I want to SEE it. The numbers aren't all logical. You would think going from a 245 to a 265 would increase the specified range, but it often doesn't. I also dont know why the rim being 16 or 17" should make 8.5 more or less acceptable.

    What tire do you want?

Cooper's website says there st maxx 255/85/26 is aproved for a 6.5 - 8" rim.

Go to the tire manufactures website you want and look it up

Everyone... I'm just asking for pics if anyone has done this. I fully realize what google is.

I'm glad to know you all read the instructions and do it exactly as it says. Rinse. Repeat. Did you repeat? (name that film =p)

It really, truly, honestly, is not dangerous to put a tire on 0.5 inch wider rim than its specified for. My concern is that it will not protect the rim (may or may not, it depends on the tire and rim) and so I was hoping to see what it looked like first.

I might pick up a cheapy off craigslist and bead it so I can get a feel for it. I'll post pics if I go this route.

Yes. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I can get them mounted, and I can't wait!

They're great! Thanks again for the restoration process for the caps. They look good and I've got a few comments from locals. :)

Love the instant height gratification :p

The wife did mention that the truck seems to ride stiffer...need to see if what I can get from some tire pressure adjustments :)

I'm new to TW and have been looking around for new tires, I'm currently running 235/70/16's but want to go bigger. I really like 255/85/16's but I'm not sure if I'd be able to clear them. I know I'm going to have to trim but I don't know how much. All I have is a procomp 2.75 inch leveling kit (the rear leaf still needs to be added). Your opinions on whether I can run them would be appreciated.

You might have minor frame rub, depends on your alignment. The leveling kit may help out a bit with that. You already removed your mudflaps, so no issue there. If you wanted to cut a bit of your inner fender liner off and hammer in the pinch weld you'd be golden. I'd say go for it. Even if you get minor rub at full lock with compression it's not the end of the world:thumbsup:

Thanks for the input I think I'm gonna go for it. I'm so tiny and need the night lol I'll get an alignment after they're installed to see if that helps some

so my old school cooper st 255's are getting pretty worn, i'm at about 44,000km and am expecting that by 50,000km they will be pretty done so it's coming to time to order some new 255's. i want the toyo's but the cooper st maxx are about $250 cheaper installed with taxes in. the coopers look beefy in the pics when mounted and of course so do the toyo's, but the toyo's spec to 33.5 tall according to toyo and the coopers to 32.8 tall according to cooper. what i'm looking to know has anybody with either of these had an opportunity to compare side by side with each other? many thanks! i should mention that i'm familiar with the st maxx as i ran them on my f150..

Just tossed my 255/85 km2's for a set of 315/75 Baja claws. Honestly feel like the 255 had more traction.
