I read pretty much every post in this thread. It was pretty helpful, but hard to find info easily. I went with the cooper st maxx. Definitely worth it. Hopefully my set up can be informative for others looking to try the size.
    2006 4.0L V6 Access cab with 6 speed manual
Wheels: Stock OR wheels with NO spacers
Front Suspension: Bilstein 5100s set to 1.75 with 3/8 spacer above the strut (see photos), also running a LR UCA
Rear Suspension: Stock TSB 4 leaf pack with a 1.25" block and 5100s
    Alignment: 2.3 caster, 0.3 camber, 0 toe
I was expecting a tight fit but I have way more room than expected. No rub lock to lock during normal driving. Can even keep my front flaps on if I want to spend a lot of time on gravel roads. Haven't stuffed these yet but I'm not that concerned. Like I said, way more room than expected. As for power, the difference is noticeable, but only because I'm paying attention. The increased braking distance is more noticeable. As for the ride, tires are barely louder than my Michelin XIce 2 winter tires which sound like a typical passenger car tire. Right now I'm running 32 psi and the ride is just slightly rougher than my old Toyo OC AT tires. Again, probably perceptible because I'm being critical. All in all, great purchase with not much in terms of modification.

Update to the above post. I messed around with some chalk to figure out my tire pressures. For what's it's worth it looks like 36 psi front and 33 psi rear with nothing in the box is best for me. As I have an access cab I'm a bit lower than others seem to be running with dual cabs. Just to reiterate, truck rides better than expected with clunky E rated tires. If you're on the fence about purchasing some ST maxx tires in the 255/85r16 I doubt you will find anything disappointing about them if you pull the trigger.

My current 255's are about to be done for, and I want to go back with that size again. I'll probably get 40k+ out of my current ones; What mileage can I expect out of Cooper, BFGs, or Toyos?

Cordovan TrailCutters, right now I have maybe 32k on them, and they still have a ways to go, but they won't last the year.

I have this setup. I removed mud flaps on the first day and I have front and rear plate bumpers. About 2.5" of lift. The only thing I trimmed was about an inch of the bottom front fender, towards the cab. Just that little L shaped tab at the bottom, which I don't even know if it needed to be trimmed.

So after a long time (2 years!) I finally got some LR UCA and got a new alignment:
    IMG_0017.jpg
I do have to say, I should have done gotten adjustable UCAs in the first place. Before the truck would wander on the highway, and feel twitchy at speed. I had was rubbing at full lock on the frame too (even after 1st gen wheels, but only when stuffed).
Now it stays steady on long drives, the wheels moved forward in the wheel well so I have no rubbing or clearance issues.
I would consider adjustable UCA a requirement on a 3" lift.

    Setup:
    2006 access cab 4.0
    KM2 255/85/16
1st gen 5 spoke alloy wheels (for better backspacing)
OME 886 + top plate spacer up front
    2" AAL in the back
ARB bumper + winch with steel winch line
    bolt on sliders
    Removed sway bar and mudflaps
    And now LR UCA.

    Hi Guys/Gals,

This is a great thread, but I have to be honest...I didn't read the whole thing start to finish. So perhaps my question has been answered. However, my question is how does the 255/85/16 (I'm thinking about the KM2) fit with a 2 inch lift and backspacing on the stock 2012 Tacoma TRDOF rims?

I would put them on after I get a lift installed, and I'm signed up (current group buy) to purchase the OME stock kit (vs. heavy kit), which means 885 coils. I'm told this provides about a two inch lift. My plan is to keep the UCAs stock for now.

Any experience on how much trimming I might have to do, or rubbing that I will experience?

See my earlier post on the previous page (#3377). I have a pretty similar set up in terms of overall lift height and wheels. I have had no issues in the week that I've had them. No serious off roading yet but have flexed pretty good and have not rubbed. I would seriously recommend going with an aftermarket UCAs before you worry about tires. Not only will it decrease your chance of rubbing (by allowing for higher caster values and moving the wheel forward in the well), I believe it is important for the overall handling of a lifted truck. My truck came with a spacer lift with stock UCAs and I drove it for a few months before I upgraded. Harsh ride, wandering steering, crazy bump steer and chatter on potholes and road cracks. When I went with proper UCAs to correct my alignment, the ride was much more stable. Night and day difference, not a subtle improvement. Plus, my LR UCAs combined with 5100s allow for a bit more down travel which significantly improved my ride.

What UCAs did you go with (I'd like some economical...I don't need the flashiest/most expensive)? And it sounds like you went with 5100s? I've heard that the shocks that come in the OME kit are not great, and that the 5100s provide a much improved ride (on and off road)...which has me on the fence for this OME kit.

I went with the light racing UCAs. They had some issues with the first iteration but they seem to have sorted them out for the second. I called the company to make sure I got the newer version. For what it's worth, great support. They are also quite a bit cheaper than the total chaos UCAs. I was also going for something economical. So far, I am impressed with the 5100s, although I can't compare to OME stuff as I have never run it.
