Yeaaa... You might want to get one of those rubber mouth pieces so you don't break your teeth when you hit a bump.

If you want to know the correct pressure, do a chalk test.

So it's my understanding from flipping through hundreds of pages that a 2" lift should accommodate 255/85 with minor trimming?

Well not sure about your year but mine is a 2002 and had to smash that pinch weld and trim the inner fender well in front and on the rear i had to cut some of the fender flare

Lift doesn't have anything to do with being able to fit bigger tires. The suspension still cycles through the same range of motion. If it won't fit stock you'll need to grind/hammer/cut regardless of lift.

Yes minor trimming of plastics only. You won't need to hammer the pinch weld on the second gen, and they shouldn't hit the cab mount either. You won't have to trim anything in the rear.

I think they run bigger than other 255/85s, side by side they look bigger anyway. They looked wider than my km2s as well

For those that ran 255's and then switched to 285's, what were your impressions?

I went from 285s to 255s. 255s are way better in the snow up to a point I guess. I haven't run them in snow deeper than 12". 285s seemed to push a lot in corners on snowy roads.

For any 1st gens out there, here's an updated list of what I had to do to get these tires to clear. Hopefully someone finds this useful. Tires are 255/85/16 BFG km2.

    For the rear...

All-Pro axle relocation plates, used in the 3/4" position

Replaced fender flare screws with stainless flathead screws to avoid rubbing the heads.

    Up front...

Pinch weld smash and trimmed plastic

Trimmed plastic that covers the front bumper cover mount, and the top of the wheel wells

Then I was still rubbing on the washer fluid reservoir.

So I ditched the stock reservoir and made this one

It used the stock pump inserted here. Had to extend the wires and hose to the pump.

and mounted the thing here with some crafty zip tie kung foo

It's sturdy, works good, and is hidden by the skid plate.

Had to trim the rear flares even with the axle relocate plates. Was rubbing the front and rear of the flare at extreme stuff.

After all that, I'm still rubbing the frame barely at full turn under compression. My wheel+spacer combo is the equivalent of 4.0 BS. A wheel with 3.5 BS would completely alleviate the frame rub.

    Anyway, all that for this

    Hope this helps!

You like the 255s over 285s that much?
