Has anyone that switched to 285's from 255's kept their 255 as a spare? At some point I want to try out 285's but don't want to deal with a swingout carrier or having the tire stick down an extra inch below the truck.

Joined the club. 255 85 r16 km2's. Picked up five, still need to mount the spare. Set at 40 psi from dt. Love them so far, looks like I could go up about another inch though. 2.5" spacer up front, add a leaf in the back.

Great looking rig!! I'm asking everyone that has put on 255's...do you notice any significant difference in acceleration and/or power? Are you running stock gears?

I really want to move up to 255s, but I don't want to regear.

Had 265 75s and I haven't noticed much loss on road. Downhill in 4lo, however I can tell I need to ride the brakes more. Totally worth the trade off for extra clearance imo.

    Stock gears.

Went from 285/75/17 to 255/85/16 then to 315/75/16. Liked the 255's for their acceleration and minimal power loss. That was about it. I also live in the snow and didnt notice any difference in the 285 to the 255 to the 315 size either.

255 is my first oversized tire since the stock rugged fails, 285 will be my next stop. I can't imagine I'll ever do 315's with the anount of long distance driving I do, though.

I do a lot too but at this point it is kind of a show truck. I did like my 255s though, a lot, just went a different route.

Anyone have a real world measurement of 255 Cooper ST Maxx mounted ? Cooper's website says they are 32.7 in tall. Toyo and BFG says theirs are 33.3 and 33.1.

That's the height before mounting. After mounting it'll depend on tire pressure, truck weight, etc....

Also you're talking about a pretty insignificant size difference. 0.4 - 0.8" overall diameter, or 0.2 - 0.4" extra clearance. That's not going to make or break you getting over an obstacle...

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
bfg 285's on a f250 and my bighorns 255's and the stock rugged fail for comparison, all with less than 1000 miles on em i would say
