he was asking if there were any other AT, not mud terrain in that size. The M55 pretty good, a little rough riding.

Looking at getting 255 80 R17 I have 285 KO and 285 st maxx on 17 wheels on my sons and my Fj Cruiser the st maxx has been a great tire in all colorado conditions just with the 255 was taller like most 255s are. Trying to decide if its worth it to get a set of 16 wheels for toyos of should I just go st maxx or Nitto ridge grapler in 255 80 17 this is my daily driver.

17" wheels are a better buy as you can find a MUCH bigger variety of sizes and tire models for 17's.

16's look cooler with the taller sidewall. But you are restricted to 265/70, 265/75, 285/75, and 255/85.

17's you can get 265/65, 265/70, 285/70, 285/75, 255/75, 255/80 34x10.5 and all the really big tires are usually 17" wheels or bigger.

Thanks I noticed a few years ago there were more 16 sizes and more choices in 255 now it seems to be the other way around. To bad the toyo isnt offered in 17.

Ahhhh. Gotcha haha. I found a deal online, $270 a tire Canadian. Which would be $200 or so American. Before I found the deal, the best price I could find was $470 CA a tire!! Yikes!

    Bilstein 5100s OME 885 2" AAL
Hey Everyone, I'm doing research into the next set of tires I want to run and have settled on 255/85 R16 as the size I want to go with. I'm installing Billies 5100s with OME 885s and a 2" AAL in the rear, and from the research I've been doing it sounds like the Cooper ST Maxx on stock rims and spacing should fit without any rubbing (maybe at full flex while offroading?). However, I just came across the Mastercraft Courser CXTs and saw that they seem to be slightly larger: 33.15" Diameter vs. 32.8" ST Maxx...10.4 Sec. Width vs. 10.2 Sec. Width ST Maxx...they're also made by Cooper, and from online prices they seem to be substantially cheaper as well (saw them for $195 a tire vs. $244 Cooper ST Maxx)

I'm wondering if anyone is running the Mastercrafts and if so, what has your experience been with them? Did you need to do any trimming or get spacers? Any info would be appreciated!

You by chance work in the woods? I don't know a lot of people running the M55 that don't work in the woods.

Just bought a set of 255/85r16 Mastercraft Courser CSX from Amazon. Long story short....I called and asked when would they be shipped out because it was taking longer than expected so they refunded me 75% of the cost....so grand total of $186 for 4 tires!

Great tire overall. Very little road noise, they are on the heavier side I believe they weigh out at 53lbs. Discount tire did the balancing on a road force machine. They did mention the tires did take a lot of weight to balance out too. But overall very happy.

Things. Stuff. Lots of bad decisions.
    Mostly Zip-Ties
I just replaced my first set of 255's and after 40k+ miles I think I have a valid opinion, so here goes.

I'm running BFG KM2's. Overall, I am very satisfied with the size and the tread. I have the same tread on 33x12.50's on an XJ and the 255's are noticeably quieter. It could be the insulation is better, it could be the driver's seat is farther from the tires, it could be a number of things but my wife and I do not have to raise our voices over the tires and the radio can be kept much, much lower than the Jeep. This does not mean they are silent. They do howl, but nothing like the 12.50's and nothing like many of the other MT treads.

As far as fitment goes, with the SCS rims I do rub a bit on the front fenders under compression while turning and on the rear fenders under sever compression. I have a fair amount of lift, King extended travel in the front and King 12" smooth body in a mid-travel rear. However, with the factory rims the tires did not rub the UCA's, fenders, or cab mount. Under severe compression at lock, they would try to pinch the ABS wire, but a zip-tie fixed that. I do not recall the offset on my SCS rims, I believe it's like 4.25 or something.

On-road handling is great. My MPG's did take a hit. I am around 15 MPG's avg but I do have a lot of extra steel on the truck. The tires are very predictable on wet and dry pavement and their on-road manners are excellent. Hard braking they still feel very solid and predictable as well. I'm not saying they corner like an F1 car, but they do corner well, even in wet weather. I have noticed something I wasn't expecting in regards to wet roads - the tires just don't hydroplane. Again, not saying it's impossible, but I do not recall ever hydroplaning since switching to these tires. They seem to cut right through water like a razor blade where my 12.50's tend to float. They do not like ice, obviously, and my limited driving in snow has been hit or miss. When it snowed here in south Texas last year, I didn't have any issues. They did great. The snow in Colorado, they were ok until it started to get deep.

Off-road handling is awesome. They do very well in mud, better than expected, as long as it isn't deeper than your frame. Same thing with sand, I was expecting them not to do well in the sloppy sand at the beach but I've just never had an issue. Even burying the rear to the diff, when I put it in 4WD they just pulled it right out. They also have the same razor-blade effect in deep ruts. Where my XJ tends to follow the ruts, the taco goes where you tell it. If you want out of a rut, just turn. If you want to go across ruts, they will only track with the ruts briefly and then continue carving their own path. Wasn't expecting that, but it's been very nice. In loose gravel they will throw some pretty mean rocks but the handling is, again, predictable. I usually air down to 14 PSI but have been down to 12 PSI without issues. I think I've read someone running down to 9 PSI without popping a bead. 14 PSI seems perfect for the rocks and trails common in my area. The tread is excellent and the knobs grab hold of anything and everything. Following someone with the same size Coopers and similar lift and set up on the trails has been a bit of an eye opener, I had zero wheel spin on most obstacles where I noticed the Coopers slipping.

Lifespan was good on the first set. I rotate them every 5k when I do oil changes. Once I got the suspension issues I was having initially sorted out, they wore smooth and evenly. Towards the end, they were very loud, handled like shit, and much rougher. The tread still had a bit of life left, maybe another 5-10k, but that was my cue to replace them. The new tires are night and day from the old, even though they are the exact same. They do take a shit load of weight to balance but after having great luck with dynabeads in my dual-sport KTM motorcycle, I bought some for the taco. I figured if they made that big of a difference in a dirt bike tire, they should also work in the pizza cutters. Haven't put them in yet, but that should help keep the balancing smooth and uniform throughout their lifespan.

Overall, like I said, I'm satisfied. I'm on my second set and until I move up to 37's, I will keep this size and tread. Pics in the build thread of some of the places I've taken them. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Do you notice any rubbing? How much lift do you have? I’m I stalling Bilstein 5100s with OME 885s and a 2” AAL in the rear...looking to get ~ 2.5” lift and hoping that they won’t run because after seeing your truck and hearing/ reading reviews I think I’m sold on them over Cooper ST Maxx

Hey, thanks! I have no rubbing at all even at full lock and flex (Its close, but non). I wanted to share my experience because there is very little info and not many people running them I noticed on this forum..... I also wanted to keep the stock mudflaps...I was adamant about that. I'm running a ICON 2.5" lift, ICON UCS's, ICON 1.5" rear AAL with overload spring. I really wanted the Cooper ST Maxx's first but for the price of the CXT's you can't beat them. Plus Cooper tires makes Mastercraft.

These are also factory wheels, so I'm not quite sure on back spacing...but any aftermarket wheel should be fine if these OEM work..
