255 vs 265 tires

    Ahhh. Ya that can't be good. Currently grabber LT265/70 and am getting about 15-17 mpg. It sucks.

    I run ST Maxx is 255/85/16. These are NOT light.

    But they are awesome - and quiet.

    If you went with an LT255, you might notice a slight increase in MPG, but it shouldn't degrade any more than it already is. If you don't do off roading, a P rated tire will help a lot.

    When I was loading them in the truck to get mounted, I damn near killed my back because I wasn't expecting them to be 60 lbs each.

    Always liked the LT tires to carry more weight when I need to. Not often but is convenient. Or to have the piece of mind it won't have a problem

    A 255/80/17 (or 255/85/16) tire will not improve your gas mileage, at least for stop and go driving. I could be wrong, but I believe the only tires offered in that size are LT tires. My 255 ST Maxx are flippin heavy. I love the tire, but I definitely noticed a reduction in gas mileage as well as take off speed when I made the switch.

    He's looking at 255/75r17, and there are a lot more options in that size.

    You are correct.
    But there has been a good bit of mentioning of the 255/80*85 variety in here as well. Just trying to insure the OP does not get lost in the forest for the trees.

    Honestly wanted a taller tire to fit into stock suspension over my 265/70/17. Wasn't entirely sure what fits so used those as a starting off point

    Heck, I noticed that many 255s weighed just as much as the 285s I was looking at when I was shopping around.

    For the love of god, do not get ST Maxx's for a commuter truck. They suck for city driving and are not worth any sort of "peace of mind".

    Get some P-rated 255/75 AT tires.
