Oh and I will say that @SwollenGoat is buying in Idaho so this truck won't get the luxury of the California weather... :D

Why does it seem like half of all Tacoma's are sold in Cali?

Ahhh...the wife is getting on me. Old faithful isn't so faithful anymore, it is just getting up there in miles, and getting worn out.

I think the F150 V6 would be more than enough power for me, I do drive like an old lady anymore. Yeah...total crap shoot of what is going to last the longest. main problem I am having is...I hate spending money.

No, it won't get the advantage of nice Cali weather...that is for sure. While, I do baby my trucks... it will still see some nasty stuff.

Yeah, kinda splitting hairs anymore. It is being a long time Yota owner is what is nagging me in my head. Last Ford I owned was a '76 Highboy...27(?) years ago.

Buying piece of mind, is what I am doing...though for $25K does a pretty good refesh on the old beater. The wife says...just buy a new truck for cripes sake, you cheap bastard! :D

    LOL.

Let's be honest too. You know the interior, body, and frame of each truck will be fine if you take care of them or, at least, protect them as best you can from aging. The drivetrain is what you are worried about, and I think you're looking at a crap shoot as long as you do the sever conditions maintenance on each truck. Either one will make you happy. JUST BUY ONE :p.

Do like the F150, because you can get rubber flooring and vinyl seats...take a bit more abuse, and cleanup easier. It is the drive train that has me worried. It is one of those things...you wont know until you get there. Worse case scenario if it craps out early I sell it and buy something else.

Considering ditching the Trooper too, while we don't carry people often...the Super Cab of the F150 has about as much leg room as the Trooper, be nice to have the option of extra passengers where there is none in the Tacoma. We do get friends and family visiting a couple times a year, I can't take them into the back country with the Trooper nor the Tacoma. Well, she squeezed back of the extra cab of the Tacoma when her dad came out for a fishing trip...she was miserable, hating life on those washboard ranch roads.

I know! I am as bad as the little woman...can't make up my fricken mind!

If I wasn't such a cheap bastard, I would buy both!

You will be happier with the F150. No comparison between the two if pulling an enclosed trailer. The F150 has a wider and longer wheelbase. Plus it has more room for taking those weekend trips. If you weren't towing, I'd say the Tacoma because of reliability, even though Ford makes a great truck. I'd get the 2.7 echo boost. Fantastic engine with great fuel economy. Power when you want it, fuel economy when you don't

Towing near the 4-cly capacity in the mountains/hilly terrain... just go with the F-150.

The 2.7 Eco looks good on paper. Since I am going to own this vehicle past its warranty, don't want to deal with those turbo$ after the warranty expires. Power train is only 5 year/60K mile. Since I drive 20K a year...I'll hit that 60K in 3 years.

13,500 is commuting, 6500 is for exploring.

Could take her Trooper, and use that as my commuter to keep miles off the truck, and just use it as a strict camp/bike hauler rig. We live less than a mile from her work. She could use the F150 or the beater Tacoma for her commute...

...of course kinda silly to spend all the money on a vehicle that is going to sit mostly. Whole reason to buy a new truck is to use it.

That is a good point. I was very leery of the Eco boost engines when they came out, but I haven't heard of any issues with the turbo. The 5.0 v8 is a good engine as well, just won't have the fuel economy. The 3.5 eco boost drives like a mustang GT. Ford has some great incentives right now. They have a black Friday rebate of $1000 I think. Best deals I've seen on F150 in a while are now. Just don't drop a toolbox full of lead bricks at an angle, into that aluminum bed. Or drop pave stones from ten feet up.

Yeah, kinda leery of those Turbos when the mileage gets high. Buddy of mine has the 5.0 he gets 20 hwy...I can live with that. Both my Trooper and Tacoma get around that...so not too much of change there. Other than those have been looooong been paid for. The Tacoma is starting to nickel and dime me though.

Usually end of the year is good time to buy. Funny I haven't bought a vehicle from a dealer in over 25 years. My '85 4Runner was from a dealer...the rest have been private sellers.

If your truly worried about lifetime go get a diesel you won't out live that truck grunted. Just please God don't get the 6.0 that thing is a piece of shit. My dream truck is a Dodge mega cab 4x4 long bed 3500 diesel 1 ton God that truck is amazing. But at 70k it's hard to bite but the truck will run 500k without blinking an eye. Worth it in my eyes

Once you bedline them F150 you can drop pretty much anything on it. I use an F150 at work and regularly throw a 50 pound post pounder in the box during the summer, rough edges on the handles and all. No holes yet lol.

It'll run to 500k, but there won't be any cab left and you'll be on your fifth transmission :D.

Speaking of Ford Diesels have you seen that YouTube/Facebook post where a woman is going nuts because her exhaust is glowing red hot on a brand new 2017 Ford F450? Basically she tears into Ford for being absolute shit because they say that her truck checks out but yet every time she goes for fuel the exhaust heats up and throws codes... Then later down the posts you find out that Ford sent one of their higher up engineers to have a look with the head mechanic from the dealer that sold it only to find out that she WAS PUTTING DIESEL FUEL INTO THE DEF TANK . She tried to delete everything but it will live on in the internet forever.

How the frick do you even do that lol, the Diesel nozzle from the pump won't even fit in the hole for the DEF tank!

The engine of diesel itself will do that kind of mileage. It is all of the other BS is what I don't want to deal with (read pay for) injector pumps, injectors, DEF system, etc. It is the same dilemma with the Ecoboost...don't want to deal with the turbos out of warranty.

Diesel is waaay over kill for yanking a 2500 lbs trailer....not that it wouldn't be cool. Have been over the cool factor of vehicles for a while now. Blame it on getting old. I just want it to work, with as little fussing as possible. Cheap and reliable is at top of the list before anything. The rest is, what will I put up with for being a cheap dirt bag SOB. ;)

Idk what you mean bout the cab but if you get the Allison (I think it is for dodge) tranny and bullet proof it you won't have any problems if properly maintained. Diesels are no joke and if all I have to do is replace a tranny every 10 years I'd be happy

Nope, I'm not knocking on Diesels. My experience with Dodge though has been that everything behind the Cummins is pretty suspect, but the engine is great.

Read my post again for the edit. Funny story there.

Makes sense I know diesel is way too much power but I was talking reliability. There is alot of maintenance for Diesels but if all it is is maintenance I'd be happy without having to worry about the major things.
