I agree with you actually. I don’t know why I get triggered by mpg threads. It’s my demon that I must battle :)

Lol! These threads are the equivalent of saying that you're 7' tall while standing on a step-stool. It means nothing. Congrats.

600 miles to a single tank:

    upload_2022-6-15_11-57-18.jpg

Fill up start elevation: 5702 ft.
Fill up end elevation: 6211 ft.

Total gallons used: 18.563, for an overall mpg of 33.76 (this photo was taken at the pump)

Definitely can't pull this off without aggravating people behind you.

This was achieved with a 2.7L 2WD Tacoma.

607 of these miles, 90% highways all in a single day. Cruising speeds between 45 and 55 mph, lots of elevation change from as low as 5200 ft to as high has 11500 ft. 30 miles of dry dirt road.

I ordinarily only get 23-27 depending on weather.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
I don't pay attention to mileage...it's all about SMILEage for me!

Feel free to use "SMILEage" in all the mileage threads. Consider it my gift to the misers!

Having only just upgraded from 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen, I've become deeply focused on gaming my MPG and therefore am happy to see what's possible! Towed a boat up a windy mountain pass and it dropped to 8.4, and managed to get the overall tank back up to 18 with some nice granny driving.

The only reason people with stock trucks have over 1k posts on a forum is their frequent bragging about mileage.

90% highway no faster than 65. RTT, 2” lift, OEM roof rack and steel bed rack. Showing 21 MPGs and it’s not even corrected for my 33” tires.

I could not be happier with fuel mileage on my Tacoma.

    Skid plate. Running boards.
It’s just another reason why the Tacoma is a good truck. I don’t understand the triggering and trolling.

It’s essentially two engines in one. Simulated Atkinson cycle with port injection on one end and Otto cycle with direct injection on the other. Nice to know there are options. I have been amazed at times. Whether it’s miles per gallon or smiles per gallon. Lol.

lordy, what kind of “highway” can you just drive 45 on? How far back did you have traffic backed up? lol

Either you’re the slowest driver in the world or someone’s putting gas in your tank no one gets anywhere near 600 miles to a tank with normal driving.

    I have 33's and a lift so....

Don't know miles but :anonymous:I drove 45 minutes mostly highway and got 13+ mpg 75 mph this weekend. When going to work last week 30-35 minutes mostly highway I got 17+ mpg at 70 mph. It's just all over the fucking map! I am dangerously close to buying 5.29's and skinny 35's AND new rims to fit them $$$$$$ just to get decent mileage (and perhaps looks/ground clearance/torque).:frusty:

Or, should I just go with 4.88's and keep my tires/rims?

Seriously, the mileage is my only real complaint with the truck. I mean, My '07 Dodge truck with Hemi and 35's got over 20 mpg FFS and was fast as shit!

I live at over 5,400 ft and if I baby her I may get 16 lol! Elevation kills MPGs along with my heavy but outstanding KM3s I have to accept it.

Well, I have a rule: if I have 5 or more vehicles behind me, I will pull over and let them all pass. I probably pull over 2 or 3 times per hour on major roads.

Also my definition of "highway" might be different from yours. To me, a highway is a road without traffic lights, stop signs, or turn offs, and if there are any of those things, they are very low density. That's the recipe for getting 600 miles to a tank, minimal stops (and braking in general), moderate, mostly constant speeds, and few short trips/cold engine operation. Notice how I didn't mention acceleration. That's because acceleration doesn't matter to fuel economy, it's how much air you have to push out of the way (your typical cruising speed) and how much momentum you waste via the brakes that kill your MPG. Not even hills and elevation do that much damage as long as you stick to the fundamentals of momentum conservation. I'm not afraid to let off the gas downhill because fuel shut off is good for MPG. I'm also not afraid to step on the gas to a point uphill to get my engine in it's peak brake-specific-fuel-efficiency range where it converts the most kinetic energy as it can from the chemical energy in the fuel. Weight and aero drag will of course take their toll on MPG as well, but you can still blow the EPA numbers out of the water if you do the things I mentioned.

And no, this is not normal driving. This is me driving from scenic view to scenic view in Colorado. I want to see what the state has to offer landscape-wise before I go back to Alaska and plus it distracts me from everything else going on in the world ... since I'm not in any kind of hurry and fuel is so expensive, I go slow to save fuel and to savor the drive.

Elevation doesn't necessarily kill MPG. Elevation benefits overpowered vehicles and hurts underpowered vehicles by changing the influence of throttling losses.

85 octane 10% ethanol fuel, the stuff they sell at Costco. That's not a typo, I run 85 octane because 99.9% of my driving is above 5700 ft and the 2TR-FE tolerates it extremely well thanks to port fuel injection and low 10.2 compression ratio.

My very first tank I tried using 87 "super/mid-grade" octane (as it's sold in high elevation areas) and I want to say it ran worse on 87 than it does on 85. Most vehicles that call for regular usually do run worse on anything higher than the minimum in my experience.
