    it takes time for the ECU to adjust fuel maps/timing advance for the change in fuel octane

    If you’re driving the speed limit that’s fine. If you’re doing 10 miles under with just 3 cars behind you, then you’re being selfish since some people aren’t just sight seeing and have somewhere to be. I don’t know the answer to that but please don’t be one of these lol.

    That's true, but I don't think it's relevant for a low-medium compression port injected engine that was designed to run on regular. I 100% believe the 2GR in the Tacomas can and does make use of higher octane fuel because it has a higher compression ratio and has direct injectors as well as port. Same for any turbocharged engine. But I know of no mechanism that would enable the 2TR-FE to take advantage of anything higher than 87 octane.

    I used to own a GS350 and I could tell within minutes after I switched from 87 to 90 (highest available in Alaska) or back that something changed, and I clearly preferred the way it ran on 90 as opposed to 87 - no contest. On my 2000 (no longer owned) and my 2020 Tacoma, both with the 2.7L, ran worse on mid-grade gasoline for the entire tank and switching back to the minimum felt better within minutes. I think that's because those engines are clearly engineered for a specific octane. The "it takes time to adjust to higher octane" category I believe is for modern engines that tolerate regular extremely well, but have the capability to take advantage of higher octane if provided.

    I could be wrong about some or all of that, just what I think.

    I'm NEVER that moron going slow in the passing lane. That's not only incredibly stupid, but dangerous as well. If I am going 10 mph under the speed limit, and there's no passing lane, I will try to pull over promptly if even a single vehicle comes up behind me. Not always, but if I will if I can. I only wait for a queue of 5 when I'm going the actual speed limit, which definitely also happens.

    Hell, sometimes when I'm not sight seeing and going 10 over, I still get people passing me. It seems no matter fast or slow I go, there is always someone in more of a hurry than I am.

    I tend to agree, that yes it is incredibly selfish to drive less than the speed limit, but it is after all a limit, not a target. We pay the same amount of money for registration taxes and fees, so I think as long I'm not doing anything dangerous, illegal, or overtly selfish (hence the 5 vehicle queue rule), we have the same right to road and my conscience is clear. The slow speed thing is just on these weekend summer drives that I like to do, not my normal commute. The thing I do on my normal commute is decelerate slowly when possible, but I signal early, and for traffic lights that have turned red or are about to turn red, well, I'm not impeding anything no matter how gradually I slow down if we all stop at the same light.

    Funny!:rofl::rofl:
    But to be fair, there's definitely something wrong (mindless sheep) with those people that will follow and be "stuck" behind someone and NOT pass on the right when it is prudent. :cheers:

    I drive the speed limit, and stay right. Doing that I get passed like I am standing still…what do notice about the passing lane at least here…it is speeders tailgating other speeders.

    That’s true, however sometime you can’t pass on the right due to traffic going faster. I just bode my time and when I can get over, do it. I may or may not give a good horn alert to the slow driver in the left lane.:rolleyes:

    On two lane HWYs I’ll pull over and let people pass. They may think I am being nice, but I am letting them run interference for LEOs…let them get the ticket. ;):D

    I’m all for people that want to drive below the speed limit, when they are polite and considerate about it.

    You never know. That slow driver might be driving home from the hospital, just got fired or on their way to a funeral for a loved one. I usually give folks the benefit of the doubt. No matter how bad my day is, I can bet someone else, somewhere is having one far worse than mine.

    I used to drive fast…fast enough to have my license revoked, and almost had it revoked again. Don’t even want to know how much I have paid in fines, or time wasted in traffic survival school. Lesson learned… took awhile, if people get pissed off for me driving the speed limit or below, fuck ‘em. Sure I’ll get the “look” of why are you driving so slow stupid! I’ll give them my best parade wave and shit eatin’ grin back.

    Man…would never know we are having record high fuel prices for how fast people still drive.

    Where there is traffic I drive 5-7 m.p.h. above the limit and that is too slow for the vast majority of drivers... Back paved roads I pull over frequently and get a kick out of passengers not used to riding with me when they flip out wondering why I'd do such, then there's the tailgater's that sit behind you until you stick your hand out the window and wave them by.

    I put the cruise at the speed limit. Won’t drive faster for tailgaters, if they can’t figure out how to get around me that is their problem. Luckily I can take ranch back roads most of they way to work and don’t have to deal with majority of the dumbasses. Only on the interstate once a week to head to the trails, just sit back and laugh at people getting frustrated. Ya think they would eventually realize that a pig enjoys rolling around in the mud. If want to piss people off drive the speed limit. lol!

    Amen brother! Whenever I get behind a minivan doing the speed limit or less, I always think of my Dad and I give the slow driver an automatic pass. I wish Dad was still out there aggravating other drivers.
