265/70/17s rubbing when turning hard, trying to avoid trimming

    2021 TRD OR. I got 17" -10 SCS Ray 10's today and had Falken Rubitreks on them. They are 265/70/17. Stock suspension and everything.

    They rub pretty good in the front when I'm turning. It's not even a full 90* turn. I need a good quick option to remedy this, but want to choose the right one.

    There are threads (example here) where people say no rubbing with similar or even beefier tires. What gives?

    Anyway, should I get 5100's or look into the leveling kits? I didn't want 2+ inches in the front that the leveling kits require, or long term affects on the suspension.

    Anyone gone through something similar and have thoughts?

    BTW just to clarify, they rub in the front fender liner / wheel well. Not the mud flaps.

    If you have room to spare by the cab mount then you can get an alignment and adjust the caster to push them back a bit

    I have a 2017 OR with 2nd gen TRD Pro suspension on. Gives it about 1.25"-1.5" of lift in the front. Running SCS GEN5 wheels 17x8 -10 offset with 265/70r17 AT tires and do not rub at all.

    Small lift up front if you don't want to cut anything.

    It’s your offset causing the rub. They will still rub even with a lift unless you never compress your suspension. I’d just trim a little off the liner. I rub with the same size tire and a -6 offset on the back of the fender liner.

    That is the root cause of your rub, the tires are swinging on a 1.35" wider arc compared to stock wheels. Either sell your Ray 10s or start cutting. :sawzall: Cutting costs $0 lol.

    FYI some 4Runner TRD Pros with 265/70-17 OEM tires rub the bumper cover, so Toyota issued T-SB-0070-19 to trim a corner off. 4Runner Pro wheels are +4mm. Your -10mm makes the problem worse.

    Okay so weighing my options I'm more open to cutting now. Not quite the viper cut but enough to make it work. I realized it does actually hit in the back of the fender as well, and it's worse when I'm in reverse. I took the mud flaps off and I'm just going to have to assess and keep working on it.

    Sorry for your troubles op. I have installed Bilstein 6112/5160 and 275/70r17 tires with -10 offset wheels from SCS, and I have no rubbing issues. I also have aftermarket mudflaps. I think your issues are with alignment.

    Getting one now. I started cutting last night, and one part of the wheel liner was hitting on the left side but not at all on the right side. Made me think that an alignment will help - I'll go from there.

    You need to get 0 clearance mud flaps, the OEM style are in the way. then a heat gun to massage the front/rear of the fender liner and a small part of the plastic fender flare on the rear of the front wheel.

    Here's what I ended up doing. I removed the screw and retaining clip, then pushed the fender liner forward and ziptied it in place. Used shears to trim the obvious areas and we're good now. It only rubs a little when I am reversing at full turn down a curb.

    It's the wheel offset doing you no favors. I have 265/70r17 on Toyota TRD Sema wheels, they slightly rubbed at the back, when turning and going up or downhill. Added more caster to the alignment, pushing the wheels forward, no more rub, in any situation. Ski

    Like everyone else said, offset and alignment.

    I run 17x8.5 0 offset wheels with 265/70R17 General Grabber A/TX and I removed the mudflaps. I thought it wouldn’t rub according to some info here running the same size and offset wheels, but it ended up rubbing occasionally.

    While it doesn’t rub when just driving around town, it did rub occasionally whenever I go wheeling, particularly in full lock when the suspension is compressed and mainly on the rear of the fender liner (I currently run 2.6 caster).

    I haven’t really bothered to do anything about it because it doesn’t happen a lot and it’s just rubbing on plastic. But I eventually may just play around with the caster (adjusts how the wheel sits forward and back within the wheel well).

    Btw, a lift would only help reduce rubbing whenever you drive around town. It’ll still rub the same amount whenever you compress the suspension

    As noted, wheel offset is the problem. I ran and +1 and only tapped the mud flaps and bit. Swapped to a low profile flap problem was gone.
    In your case I wouldnt start cutting. Just get a heat gun a do a little bit of molding or follow the instructions above to move the liner forward. I had to do this for my 285's. I wouldnt be playing with an alignment unless it's way out of wack. It's easier to fix a front rub than a back rub.
