I am well aware that the variety of different lifts/tire combinations have been explored a plethora of times on this site...HOWEVER, I have looked through and read countless threads, to the point where my head is starting to hurt, as there is an overwhelming amount of information..

With that said, I currently have my 2015 Tacoma Double Cab SR5. In the upcoming weeks I am looking to have a lift installed. I have decided to go either the Bilstein route or OME, in hopes of obtaining around 2-2.5" of lift, depending on which one I decide.

The tire size 265/75/16 seems to be a popular choice with the above combo. However, in looking at some of the photos of members with that combo or something similar, they appear just a tad small for me. With that said, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with something a little taller?

I would like to minimize or completely forego any trimming if possible. I have seen where 255/85/16's might be an option, but I am not sure if those would cause rubbing issues..

Any help (aside from telling me to use the search function) would be much appreciated.

255's for no rubbing or trimming

285's for minimal to medium trimming depending on the type of driving you do.

285's look best IMHO out of those two options..

Good to know...so 255/85/16's will require NO trimming at all?

Correct. 255's or pizza cutters, are pretty skinny tires. I think some people install them on stock height trucks and don't even rub.

It is important to note that every truck is different and not all experiences are the same.

Gotcha... What are the cons to going to such a tall/skinny tire?

Not much really. Personally, I think they look funky. One could argue tread width for offroad situations is greatly decreased. Traction is key when offroad. Again, it comes down to driving style and intended use.

My lift came to just under 2.75 inches. i've been running my stock TRD OR tires and rims. It looks more like a work truck but the ride is noticeably firmer and damper. I'll run these tires until they are worn out, then will most likely go with 265/75/16. With me, its all about utility and function.

IMHO 265/75/16 is a great size tire. Same width but about an inch taller than stock. It wont mess with speedo, your can find them in SL or C Load Range and they allow for your suspension to move freely through its full range w/o rubbing, especially with under a 3inch lift.

Taller and wider i.e.. 275/85/16 will fit but mpg and speedo will be effected.

I considered Taller and narrower - 255/85/16 would fit. Pizza cutters. They look good and are functional, but that tall of sidewall will warrant an E Load range. They are heavy and tall and will put your speedo off/mpg suffers. but are great in snow and fully functional offload.

Gotcha...I certainly wouldn't want to go any larger than a 33" tire, so the 275/85/16 would be out of the question...95 % of my driving is just commuting to and from work...I do a lot of hunting in the fall, but nothing that requires anything...

Is there is a significant difference in mpg if going to the 255/85/16?

I've been running 255/85/16 for a few months now, used to have the 265/75/16 prior. i have noticed a slight decrease in MPG but not anything major. Do note that i'm running a 10ply so its a pretty heavy tire.

Not sure; possible 1-2+ mpg. Probably weigh in @ 55+lbs each. Almost 2" extra diameter will use more torque to get them up to speed, so it may feel like you lost a bit of bottom end.

Honestly i am, the 265/75 did good but i'm on trails a lot and seems to get over obstacles easier with the 255/85's. Like @airjammer mentions above, it might feel like you lost some bottom end (it didn't for me) but i know lots of guys out here who re geared because of it.

    I think he meant 275/75r16. I don't think anyone makes a 275/85.

Good information guys....The one thing that I am torn about is that I am able to get 35% off Goodyear tires due to a family member that works there...I was looking hard at the duratracs, however, they do not make them in 255/85/16..

I am able to get the 265/75/16 Duratracs for $490 shipped.
I am able to get the 285/75/16 Duratracs for $580 shipped.

In looking at the 255/85/16s in other brands, it appears that it would cost well over $800, if not more....

Narrower tires are better in most offroad situations including mud and snow. Loose sand is about the only time wide tires help.

Yeah, if you've ever ridden a MTB w/29inch rims... the first thing you notice is how much easier it is to roll over obstacles; than on a 26". The same physics apply. Trailing a lot - you are better off having that extra tall and extra heavy sidewall.

That would make the decision really easy for me. 265/75r16 duratrac, load range C.
