    Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 2004 double cab tacoma and after about a month it needed new tires. I did some reading here on the forum and it seemed like the biggest size that would fit is the 265/75/16 so I went ahead and got four new 265/75/16 BFG A/T KOs.

Unfortunately they do not seem to fit my stock 2004 4x4 double cab. I'm fine with a little bit of rub on the frame at full lock but there is also some rubbing on the inner plastic fender liner. I'm afraid that eventually the plastic will fall apart and damage the tire.

Does my alignment play any part in this rubbing?

Rubbing on the inner plastic liner:

Any suggestions on how to stop the rubbing?

    Thanks
    Chris

Im assuming thats the front of the truck?
Im having the same problem too.

Originally i trimmed the plastic down to let it fit properly, worked for awhile but then it started back up again.
Sorry im not much help but maybe itll need new springs or something cause my truck sure does.

I think the 265/75/16 size rub on some and not on others. It is going to vary from truck to truck. It could also be that your suspension is sagging from age and that's what is causing your rub on your plastic liner.

I had the same exact issue with the same tire. I added 5100's and ome 881 and it went away. It seemed like my front suspension was sagging quite a bit before I lifted it

    Bone stock. For now.
I just put 265/75/16's on my '03 Double Cab. I had already ordered some adjustable Bilstein 5100 front struts from wheelersoffroad.com, . I had them installed at the second notch (approximately 1.25" of lift), and that solved the rubbing issue. Plus, it rides much better! Well worth the $173.00!

1st gen probz. lol jk well sort of. i have a 2nd gen and on stock ride height it only rubbed the mud flaps out front. im guessing since your truck is smaller you should either buy spacers , trim fendwell , buy 5100's for a little lift plus 5100's ride fucking awesome

I have 265/75/16 and they rub the fender in the same place as OP. I put a winch on my truck and now it is way worse... I think it is time to save up for some 5100s

Has to be because your suspension is sagging. 265/75-16 on the stock suspension on my 2004 Xtra cab 4x4 only slightly rubbed on the drivers side at full lock. OME 882s solved that problem!

    1" leveling kit.
I was looking at buying the same 265/75 will having a leveling kit prevent rubbing?

I've got 5100's with 881's (2" of lift), 265/75/16 BFG ATs, and both sides rub the frame at full lock.

I have those exact tires on my 03 Xcab with no rubbing at all, lock to lock on the wheel.

Would a couple of levelling spacers on the front end fix this?

My '03 4x4 x-cab rubbed the plastic a little before the 5100s at full lock. It hasn't happened since the 5100 went on - using the middle preload setting on stock springs.

I have a 3" lift and my 265/75R16 duratracs rub on the frame at full lock. its not horrible so I don't mind it, but im still running stock wheels... get rims with a smaller backspacing or wheel spacers to push the tire away from the frame. it has to be the backspacing on the wheels because for shits and giggles I tried on a set of my friends 33" tires on 16x8" rims with a 4" backspacing. didn't rub one bit. hopefully by the time I need new tires I can afford some new rims and I can bump up to 285's

I've got 265/75/16 Destination M/Ts and I had to trim the plastic and beat on the pinch weld so it doesn't scrub but it still rubs the frame and scrubs if I hit a bump while turning most of it's due to worn out springs and shocks.

Alright so now I'm confused. If I want to remain at stock ride height and get 5100s, which OME coil do I get? I have a winch and bumper up front.

id get 600LB Eibach coils from Toytec. I don't think the OMEs are made to fit shocks other than OME. I could be wrong , but if my memory serves me right, then the Toytec site on the OME coils page say they should only be used with OME shocks/struts
