I’m in the market for tires and I have my eyes on Nitto ridge grapplers. I was looking to stay the exact size the stock tires that come with the truck are but the shop ensures me 265/75/16 fit and won’t rub at all. Does anyone have any experience with the size on a stock truck. Is there any rubbing? Do you lose traction going fast on highway? Things like that.

The most popular upsize, you will be just fine. Can also do 255/85/16, which is a 33”.

Enjoy your new tires and truck.

It is the most popular size for these trucks. A quick google search could have done the trick.

    Happy friday!

Put on a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers last fall, did well through the ice/slush winter and into the wet roads of spring. I'll be getting another set of these when I need to.

This is exactly what I did. (Stock '17 OR w/6MT) At ~70k miles the OEM GoodYears were beat.... The Nittos RGs (+ the maybe 1/2" lift the 75s give it) look awesome.

The Nittos have excellent traction; cold, slush, rain, dirt/grave roads. (Have not experienced any real mud). Dry pavement seems good hard to recall how they felt versus OEM when they were new. High speed turns on pavement seem to slide/squeal a little, but def. controllable (maybe just a product of the deep tread new tires vs the down to the wear bars OEMs). When the roads a just starting to get wet and the water is still sitting on top of the oily asphalt, it is not good (Meaning it FEELS like it might break traction), but I think that would be the case with just about any tire on these trucks.

To be perfectly honest. I regret it a little (Or at least second guess myself). There definitely is vibration. No detectable interior noise increase, but vibration for sure. Was very poor at first; had the installing shop re-ballance and re-align... got a little better, but still off... Took it to another shop; paid them ~ $175 for another alignment and road force dynamic balancing. That helped a-lot, to the point of I can/will live with it and chalk it off to having real AT tires... I would have preferred increased noise versus vibration but this is what I've got for the next 3-5 years....

IIRC: The 75 series Nitto R.G.'s are almost 10 lbs per tire heavier than OEM, so that has to be a factor... Also; even after calculating in the 3.5% increased rolling distance I lost about 1.5 MPG in what is these days mostly city driving. I am really curious; would sticking to stock 70 profile but going with the Nitto R.G. yielded the same results? probably never know.

FWIW: All things being equal; next time I'm inclined to do those tall and skinny 85s

X2 on tall and skinny. Get clearance of 33” tire without all that weight and rolling resistance. I absolutely love my pizza cutters.

Edit: Would like to add, pizza cutters give the truck a utilitarian look, IMO.

70K from the Wranglers? Damn. I just swapped mine out at 45K and they were loud and not-round!

They lasted a while and I did push them to the limit. To clarify: I had a 5th wheel I used for rotations so it was 5 tires over 70k and I used to drive a LOT of hwy.

Those are about 1" taller than stock, same width. On MOST trucks there is no issue. In fact I see more people using 275/75/16's than the factory size. They tend to cost a little less and there are a lot more options.

My first upgrade on the stock wheels was to install 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeaks. No rubbing or long distance odd vibes/balancing issues.

Then, because vanity I picked up a used set of black Raceline wheels in 16x8 w/0 offset...slight rub going full lock left or right when going over speed bumps or into my driveway.

Never had traction issues below 119 mph.

Moral of the story: stock wheels and offset as stated, no joy/rubs with 265/75/16’s.

I went with this size because I never planned on lifting the truck or doing any work to fit 33’s. I had them on stock OR wheels and eventually on some KMC’s as well. I had no rubbing on the stock tires but when I went to the KMC’s I did rub on the front plastic. I trimmed it a bit and now it’s fine. Great tire size and they’ve performed well. I have zero complaints. 74E2E258-4364-422B-A245-8A98EB8784FC.jpg79164753-35BB-4933-A507-4BBD9A652794.jpg

How do you like this setup? I was thinking of a larger but smooth high quality tire. Seems that not many think this way..

I’ll second (third?) the suggestion of 255/85. These are Falken AT4s from my local Discount Tire, not for everybody, but I’ll be in another set when these are done.

I have Duratracs in that exact size. They look great and don’t rub. I’m probably tall and skinny next. Looks just aaa good or better depending on your preference, but better performance and less rotational mass.

Yeah… You could have looked it up. Or… you could have asked the group like you did and had a nice Saturday morning conversation about it.

    lol

Hey Bill. I absolutely loved my 32" 265/75/16 Duratracs. When I went up again to my 33" pizza cutters, it was unfortunate that Duratracs didn't come in that size, but I'm perfectly content with my 33" Wildpeaks.

Given the choice though, I would have gotten 33" pizza cutter Duratracs over Wildpeaks.
