Stock tire is 265/70/16 and I am going to 265/75/16.

What is the prevailing opinion on the spare, should it be changed as well for such a minimal change?

Gonna bite the bullet as soon as I decide between Falken Wildpeak A/T3 and Cooper Discover AT.

I changed my spare. Falken in that size. Fits fine.

If I'm going to lose a tire, it's going to be in the middle of nowhere and I'll want it to match the others in size and performance to get me back home. And unlike smitty, I didn't have good experiences with the stock tires and didn't trust them.

I have not had any bad experiences with the stock tires. Although I was in some mud this last weekend and those tires were not the best for sure. Mainly I want some more aggressive tires. Not going KO2 bro route as I want something that does not kill my mileage.

I get a matching wheel/tire and work it into my rotation so it doesn't just sit there and rot. Also extends my treadlife before buying tires again.

Also a hair over 1" taller tire isn't exactly a "small difference" when limping out of somewhere or even just driving to a shop in the highway. Get a full size spare.

I did the same and the 3rd gen TPMS system does not support the 5th sensor- earlier model Tacoma's did. I agree with not wanting to be travelling too far on the factory spare though, really disappointed that 3rd gen doesn't support the 5th tire.
Also have heard negative comments about 5 tire rotation for 4x4 vehicles, but I still plan on doing it.

I am curious...what were the negative comments concerns? I am in the same boat...

this thread has some discussion, like post #16:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/possible-to-display-spare-tire-pressure.466704/#post-13984227

Also, the dealer told me not to do it, but they were doing a CYA after ordering a 5th TPMS for my full size spare and then realizing it could not be "read" on the system- I will be doing this myself after the 24 month rotation at the dealer- gives me another 12 months to figure something out with the TPMS's

Gotta love TacomaWorld- someone may crack this for us-stay tuned.....

go with the falken wildpeak at3w! i got them (wildpeak at3w 265/75/16 load range 116 speed rated s) and they are awesome. my truck only has a 2" front lift and stock rims. theirs no rubbing and they are very quiet! they look very aggressive, they are deep tread, and the get just as good if not better mpg than my stock tires. heres some pics of the tire

265/75-16 will fit with stock suspension and wheels with no rub.

A full size spare idea would be a 235/85-16 if you want a skinny tire that will tuck up out of the way as much as possible but also be relatively the same height as a 265/75-16.

Bonus that those are both easy to find sizes, especially if you head South.

Lighter weight wheel and tire that's tall will give you a taller final gear ratio. Can mean worse mpg around town. But can also mean even better mpg on the highway.

Just get a well used freebie in that size at the tire shop. Most have some sitting around and will usually give one away if you need for your spare.
