here's 255/85 ST Maxx on FN Countersteers (16x8, 4.5" bs, 0 offset). I have ~2.5" lift in front, 3.25" in the back. only rubs in full-lock reverse, and haven't had any issues offroad yet.

Would wheel spacers fix the rubbing issue for you?

doubt it. probably easier to cut that plastic fender liner a bit, cause that's where it's rubbing. it's definitely not rubbing that hard enough to make me believe I would need a CMC though.

    need? no. want? possibly.
I drive lots of hills and I will say it's sluggish on really steep inclines or if I'm going up a hill from a complete stop. but, in addition to the heavier tires, I do also have a SnugTop camper shell and a matching full size spare that are on all the time.

Cooper ST Maxx 255/85. Spidertrax spacers, trimmed the fender flare extension a little. No regear, acceleration is good enough for me, and it still hauls my car trailer loaded just fine.

I plan on getting 255/75/17s to replace my 265/75/16s.

Tons of tire options, including C load and P metrics, highway, AT, MTs.. all available and about the same price as my 265/75/16s. Also, no difference in mounted width, but a 1.5" taller.

Same wheel specs here, but Level8 MK6. I have 255/85/16 Maxxis Bighorn MT. I used to rub, but I got a good alignment, and now no longer. 3" lift in front, 3.25" in the rear.

This is a bit exaggerated, I've had zero problems with 4hi in any condition and that's on 285's (heavier and wider) and there is quite a few on this forum who are on 315's w stock gearing that get by. Your talking like these are huge heavy tires.

I liked the 265/75/R16 size. Not too much trouble with those.

Be forewarned that if you get the Toyo MT in 255/85/R16, and you wheel your truck, you'll most likely have to do many modifications to clear the tire. They are the largest in that class. To date, I've had to to it all, CMC, pinch weld, cut fender, shim the bump stops, different wheels for less back spacing, etc.

your build is the one that helped me rule out Toyo MT's. lol. you had to do so much to make them fit properly.

    Bilstein 5100s OME 885 2" AAL
    Hey Guys,

I just got my lift in (Bilstein 5100s with OME 885s and a single AAL) and am very happy with it so far. However, I am running the stock 265/70R16s currently (Cooper Discoverer ATPs) and am looking to go up in size since the 30" tires look funny IMO. I'm trying to choose between 265/75 and 255/85 on the stock rims, and the specific tire I want to look at is the Cooper ST Maxx. I was set on going with the 255/85 but have second thoughts. Here are my concerns:

    • How substantial is the power loss going up from stock to 255/85? I tow a boat for fishing in the ocean pretty regularly (1500-2000lbs) and have to go over hills, so I don't want to affect that too much
    • Is there a significant height advantage between 255/85 and 265/75? I plan on doing some light off roading with friends (1-2 trips per year) and since I don't have rock sliders, the more clearance I can get the better
    • For those who run the ST Maxx, how badly is MPGs affected between the two tires when moving from stock?
Sorry for all these questions. I'm just trying to choose between what is most practical for my daily driver and truck that I use for my fishing, hunting and camping trips vs. what I think would look "badass" haha. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I went to 255/85 st maxx's from 265/75 duratrac's (load c) and the power loss wasn't too bad, but it was pretty noticeable when you're going uphill or starting from a complete stop. the 255/85 st maxx is 59lbs and my old duratracs were 45lbs I believe. I don't think there's that much height difference... I think 1.1" in overall size, but that only translates to .5" higher in the ride height. I live on an island so basically 90% of my driving is city-like driving, and I get around 14-15mpg with a snugtop camper and 255/85 full size spare in the stock location all the time (I used to get 17-18 with my duratracs). if it means anything, I also have really lightweight rims, 16x8 countersteer offroads, which are only 18lbs each. I'm actually going to be going back to 265/75's really soon because it's time for a new set of tires. while the 255/85's looked nice on my truck, it was probably overkill for what I do. I can still wheel to the same places with 265/75's, so I might as well go back to that size and get some mpg's and power back

Thanks for the response! I think I'm going to go with 265/75 just to stay safe. I was trying to justify the larger tires but it just doesn't make sense money wise for me.

    Thank You!

I am a complete noob haha. I have 265/70/r16 on the stock 7 inch wide rim. Would these same tires fit on an 8 inch wide method rim? Thanks!
